JTLYK 24 January

Dear Parents and Carers,

Another mammoth week of learning passes and we find the children are putting so much effort into everything they do - from writing to calculating, from discussion to competition - they are engaged and working hard.

They enjoyed learning about the major organs and their functions. Our Keith Haring art is also reinforcing their understanding of the human form.

Have a wonderful weekend,

Danni, Jo, Kathryn, Julia, Catherine and Mark.

English

Calling All Adventurers!

We wondered how Gandalf would have persuaded people to join his quest if he had to advertise for adventurers to join him on his epic journey across Middle-earth. We looked at features of persuasive writing, including metaphor, emotive language and the ‘rule of three’, and thought of our own to help us plan Gandalf’s advertisement. We then thought about ‘spinning’ the potential dangers to make them sound more appealing…

‘You will meet lots of aggressive dwarves who will eat all your food.’ Becomes...

‘You will make many interesting new friends who would love to join you for dinner!’

Maths

This week, we have continued to work on ratio and proportion. We have applied our knowledge of both to solve some tricky word problems.

Science

We discovered the function, appearance and name of major organs this week. Ask your child to tell you where their kidneys are and what they look like.

Homework

Please continue to remind your child about the importance of handing in their homework on time.

We want the children to be independent with their organisation skills; this will be incredibly valuable when they start secondary school.

Spellings

Year 6 will be returning to spelling tests on a Monday morning first thing. Please make sure your child practises their spellings throughout the week.

distorted, awkward, transform, authority, according, forty, bought, brought, automatic, August

Learn these ready for a test on Monday 27th January.
