JTLYK 17 January

Dear Parents and Carers,

We have had a fantastic time this week exploring the human skeleton and learning about why we have bones. The children loved sharing their knowledge and imagining what life would be like without all those bones!

We’ve also further immersed ourselves in Middle Earth in English and learnt about Keith Haring in our art lessons.

Have a wonderful weekend,

Danni, Jo, Kathryn, Julia, Catherine and Mark

Introducing Smaug...

We have come to the end of Chapter One of The Hobbit and the dwarfs have finally told us the story behind their stolen treasure. Smaug, the Firedrake from the north, destroyed Dale and took Erebor as his own, forcing the dwarves to flee their beloved home. We have put ourselves in the shoes of either a dwarf of Erebor or a citizen of Dale, whose home has been demolished. The children have written some fantastic journal entries describing the event and how it made them feel.

Maths

This week, we have been learning about ratio and how values relate to each other within a group. Ask your child to solve the following:

Coming Up

  • Friday 31 January – Year 5 and 6 Movie Night
  • Friday 14 February - Fluffy Friday
  • Wednesday 5 March – Science Museum Trip

Homework

Homework has now returned to normal. Please ensure your child is staying on track with their homework tasks. If they encounter any challenges, encourage them to speak with their class teacher for support.

Instead of Text Talk, the children will now receive a weekly comprehension task. They should read the text carefully—aloud if possible—and then answer the accompanying questions.

Spellings

Year 6 will be returning to spellings tests on a Monday morning first thing. Please make sure your child practises their spellings throughout the week.

heard, herd, exaggerate, unconcerned, perspective, controversial, confirmed, interaction, international, permanent, persistent, interpretation.

Learn these ready for a test on Monday 20th January.
