Curriculum

JTLYK 10 January

Dear Parents and Carers,

Happy New Year!

What a wonderful start to the New Year! The children started this new term with great purpose and commitment – we have been so impressed.

In English, we are looking at picture books this term and exploring how the illustrations and words work together to deepen the meaning and move the stories along. We are also using our inference skills and imagination to make predictions about the story. These often overlooked books are great for developing understanding and enjoyment of reading books. In maths, we have started to look at long multiplication and the formal methods for finding the product of two numbers. In science, we have started our exciting topic of Space. The children have already been able to show us just how much they know about our solar system and planets. We have sent home a topic-based homework about investigating the shape of the Moon. The children will need to try and look at the Moon each night and shade in the diary with the shape they see. We are aware that sometimes a cloudy night might make this difficult but if they could do their best to look out at the moon as well as the constellations of the stars at night, we think they will get so much more out of the topic work. These need to be returned after 5th February to allow them to observe a full lunar cycle.

We have a trip to Winchester Science Centre on January 21st and we would really like some volunteers for this – Do contact your child’s class teacher if you are able to help.
