JTLYK 6 December
Dear parents and carers,
In Maths this week, we finalised our work looking at adding two two-digit numbers and learned what to do when the ones sum to more than 10. We then moved onto looking at subtraction. Again, making use of dienes to aid our understanding as we could physically remove the number being subtracted and see the remainder. We introduced the idea of exchanging when subtracting and will return to this at a later date as it is a tricky concept to grasp.
Please continue focusing on the children's skills when adding and subtracting numbers within twenty at home. They might enjoy this game: Hit the Button - Quick fire maths practice for 6-11 year-olds
In English, we spent time looking at diaries and spotting their common features. We then did some role play to help us imagine being a person who experienced the Great Fire in its early stages. We imagined waking up, leaving our house, helping to fight the fire and escaping to the River Thames. We also spent time considering what we would have experienced with our senses. We then used our ideas to plan diary entries we will write next week.
Nativity
Please keep practising lines at home, ready for next week’s performance.
Thank you everyone for providing such lovely costumes for the children. We tried them on for our rehearsal on Wednesday and they all looked great!
Reading Record
Just a quick reminder to please send in your child's reading folder with book and reading record every Thursday. A few children are forgetting to do this regularly so please do give them a hand with this.
Church Walkers
If anyone would like to join us for the walk down to St. Mary’s for our Carol Service next week, please let us know via email.
Fire Song Performance
The children have been busily learning some songs based around the theme of fire during their Thursday afternoon music lessons. They would love to show off what they have been practising and there will be a brief performance next Thursday just before pick up time at 2:50.
