JTLYK 29 November

Dear parents and carers,

In Maths this week, we have been looking at adding two two-digit numbers. This was a great opportunity to make use of lots of maths resources like dienes. These were particularly helpful in allowing the children to understand what happens to the ones when they sum to more than nine. We spent lots of time practising the concept of exchanging ten ones for one ten, which will support the children when moving onto the written method.

Please continue focusing on the children's skills when adding and subtracting numbers within twenty at home. They might enjoy this game: Hit the Button - Quick fire maths practise for 6-11 year olds

In History, we focused on sources of evidence. We discovered that historians use four types of evidence – oral, written, visual and artefacts – and they use them to explain events from the past. We looked at a variety of sources from the time of The Great Fire of London, such as fire buckets, paintings and newspaper reports, and decided what each piece of evidence told us about the fire.

In English, we finished our recounts of our trip to St Paul’s Cathedral and focused on editing to make corrections, revisions and additions. We then moved on to think about diary writing. We read the story of Mary and The Great Fire of London by Sue Graves, before looking at some of her diary extracts. We then compared a range of diary extracts to spot the common features, such as a date, the words dear and from, the use of past tense and referring to feelings. Spotting these features will help us when we start planning our own diaries inspired by The Great Fire of London next week.

Nativity

Please keep practising lines at home, ready for next week’s dress rehearsals and final run-throughs.

Costumes are due next week on Tuesday (3rd December). If the children would like to make a mask or headband as part of their costumes, they are more than welcome to. We will not be making these at school.

Reading Record

Just a quick reminder to please send in your child's reading folder with the book and reading record every Thursday. A few children are forgetting to do this regularly so please do give them a hand with this.
