JTLYK 29 November
Dear Parents and Carers
We would love a few parent volunteers to help walk the children down to Holy Trinity Church and back on Monday 9th and Wednesday 11th December for their performance. Please let us know if you can be here for 12.45 pm on either day – thank you! Please note that if you are watching an afternoon performance you can take your child home from there, but please let us know beforehand! Otherwise, children will be walked back to school for normal pick up.
Children in Mandela and Keller will perform together on the Monday, the children from Shackleton and Nightingale on the Wednesday. We will be performing as a group of Victorian children and will need a simple costume to wear eg: a long skirt and shawl for girls, a cap and scarf for boys.
Cathedral Art Project
What a great team effort it was to get our Cathedral Christmas art project finished. Inspired by the concept of light at Christmas, the children have made a wonderful collage that can be seen at the Cathedral during normal opening hours until February. It is free to visit so please pop along!
Song: Thank You Very Much
Thank you very much
Thank you very much
That's the nicest thing that anyone's ever done for me
I may sound double Dutch
But my delight is such
I feel as if a losing war's been won for me
And if I had a flag, I'd hang me flag out
To add a sort of final victory touch
But since I left me flag at home
I simply have to say:
Thank you very, very, very much
Thank you very much
Thank you very much
That's the nicest thing that anyone's ever done for me
It sounds a bit bizarre
But things the way they are
I feel as if another life's begun for me
And if I had a cannon I would fire it
To add a sort of celebration touch
But since I left me cannon at home
I simply have to say:
Thank you very, very, very much
Song: It feels like Christmas
It's in the singing of a street corner choir
It's going home and getting warm by the fire
It's true, wherever you find love
It feels like Christmas
A cup of kindness that we share with another
A sweet reunion with a friend or a brother
In all the places you find love
It feels like Christmas
It is the season of the heart
A special time of caring
The ways of love made clear
It is the season of the spirit
The message, if we hear it
Is make it last all year
It's in the giving of a gift to another
A pair of mittens that were made by your mother
It's all the ways that we show love
That feel like Christmas
It is the season of the heart
A special time of caring
The ways of love made clear
It is the season of the spirit
The message, if we hear it
Is make it last all year
It's in the giving of a gift to another
A pair of mittens that were made by your mother
It's all the ways that we show love
That feel like Christmas
It's in the singing of a street corner choir
It's going home and getting warm by the fire
It's true, wherever you find love
It feels like Christmas
It's true, wherever you find love
It feels like Christmas
It feels like Christmas
It feels like Christmas
It feels like Christmas
English
We travelled up to the furthest frontier of the Roman Empire this week to imagine ourselves as a young soldier on Hadrian’s Wall. The children have practised writing in an informal, chatty manner to their families. They were fascinated to find out during their research, that the Romans wore underpants, socks and drank beer!
Maths
This week we have learning about multiplying by 1 and 0 – can your child tell you the rules? We also looked at what happens when numbers are divided by 1 and themselves – again, can your child tell you the golden rules? We also began to look at ‘factor pairs’ and learned how useful these can be.
Times Tables
This week we have been learning about square numbers! Square numbers are those numbers that are multiplied by each other and when laid out as an array, create a square. They are vital knowledge when calculating. Please encourage your child to learn them – they are written in their times tables book.

Spellings
This week, we have been studying the ‘f’ sound and all its representations. The children have a sticker in their Spelling Journals but here are the words for this week:
definition, emphasis, giraffe, fearsome, magnificent, affect, focus, therefore, furthermore, laughter.
Remember, Tracey’s group do not have to learn the class spellings.
DT
In preparation for our design project, the children continued to familiarise themselves with our CAD programme, Silhouette Studio. This week they had lots of fun exploring logos!.
PSHE
This week we learned about healthy relationships. The children listened to the story ‘The Not So Friendly Friend ‘ by Christine Furnival which inspired interesting (and helpful) conversations about what to do when we feel uncomfortable, sad, nervous and unsettled in some friendships.
PE
Continuing to learn how to play netball, we practised moving around the court using different passes such as chest, bounce, shoulder and overarm.
History
As we come to the end of our study of the Romans in Britain, we have been reflecting on their significance and legacy. In our groups, we thought about the idea of ‘continuity and change’ when looking at life in Iron Age Britain and in roman Britain: what things continued and what things changed? We then prepared a presentation to the class, which outlined our feelings about the significance of the Roman Invasion of Britain. Ask your child how Britain changed because of the arrival of the Romans?
