JTLYK 8 November
Dear parents and carers,
In Maths this week, we have been exploring different strategies using our number bonds to ten to help us add three one-digit numbers and larger numbers. When adding three one-digit numbers spotting our number bond to ten helped us rearrange the calculation. When adding a two-digit number with a one-digit number using our number bonds to find the next multiple of ten first made crossing the ten easier.
In English, we carried out an experiment to see how we make fire. The children really enjoyed discovering how when we removed the source of oxygen, heat or fuel the flame from the candles went out. We then wrote a recount of our experiment and findings using our skills learnt from writing instructions. We included time conjunctions, like first, then and next, to show when we did each step and made sure to sequence everything clearly.
In Art, we started creating our backgrounds for our final pieces. We found out that we are going to be learning all about The Great Fire of London this half term and used this as our inspiration. The children choose a range of watercolour techniques learnt last half term to create some very bright and patterned fiery backgrounds.
St Paul's Cathedral Trip
The trip is less than two weeks away, here are a few reminders of key information:
- The children need to be in promptly so we can leave at 9am.
- The children need a packed lunch, water bottle and light coat in a backpack which they can carry themselves.
- If the weather is dry and not too cold we will eat our lunch outside. We suggest that the children bring a long a plastic bag to sit on in case the ground is slightly damp.
- Comfy shoes are recommended and the children need to wear their school uniform.
- We will provide the children with a snack on arrival at the cathedral.
- We are hoping to be back by 3.30pm, but please look out for updates from ParentMail.
Nativity
The children might have mentioned this week that we have begun our preparations for the upcoming Nativity.
- We have now assigned all the children their roles and a letter will be coming home next week with this information so that costumes can be sourced.
- Costumes can be as simple or extravagant as you wish.
- We will also send home the children's lines next week for practising.
