Curriculum

JTLYK 18 October

Dear Parents and Carers,

Year 6 have had a super week, which was rounded off by a fantastic Fluffy Friday.

Don’t forget—next week is a shorter week. We break up for half term at 1:30pm on Wednesday 23rd October.

Have a great weekend,

Danni, Jo, Kathryn, Julia, Catherine and Mark.

English

This week, we wrote a news report for the CBBC Newsround website about the Amazon Rainforest. Our focus is on deforestation and President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva’s commitment to protecting the rainforest from destruction

Maths

It has been a great week of Maths learning!

We have been recalling the process of long multiplication.

Ask your child to recall the steps of long multiplication.

Coming up

Bikeability

Bikeability will begin immediately after half term, with the first week starting the week of November 4th and the second week commencing on November 11th.

You should have received an email indicating which group your child will be in. Please ensure your child brings a fully functional bike and helmet to school during their Bikeability week. Bikes should be brought in on Monday and will remain at school throughout the week. They will be securely stored in the locked school building overnight and taken to the undercover area each morning for training.

The children should weather appropriate clothing during their Bikeability week. They do not need to wear school uniform, but please check the weather – the Bikeability team will conduct training regardless of weather conditions.

Parent Consultations

Parents’ Evening is scheduled for Tuesday 5th November and Thursday 7th November. Please remember to book an appointment to meet with your child’s class teacher. We look forward to seeing you there!

Homework

Spellings

This week, we have been recapping the short ‘i’ sound and how it is represented in letters.

distinguished, discontinuity, individual, privilege, misheard, epidemic, millimetre, oxygen, symbol, etymology.

Learn these ready for a quiz on Monday 21st October.

Homework Project

Over the next six weeks, the children will embark on an exciting homework project focused on animal adaptations. Please find the attached document below for more details. They may want to start thinking about and planning their projects during the half-term holiday.

To allow extra time for this project, we will be reducing their regular homework by one assignment each week. We will let them know in class which homework will not be given out.

The completed projects are due on Monday 25th November. Please do not bring it in before then.
