JTLYK 11 October

Dear Parents,

The children have had a great week in school. On Tuesday, Reception attended the Harvest assembly with Year 1 and 2. The children sat beautifully, listened attentively and joined in with the harvest songs by singing loudly. We were so proud of them. Thank you so much for all the harvest donations. The table was laden with wonderful gifts that will be donated to the North Guildford Food Bank.

FLUFFY Friday and Stay and Play

We are looking forward to our first FLUFFY Friday on Friday 18 October. FLUFFY Friday is HTPD activities day full of fun learning. The children are welcome to come into school in mufti clothes -their own home clothes. Please make sure these clothes (and footwear) are suitable for outdoor activities as we will be using the climbing wall and getting a little messy throughout the day! A donation of £1 to cover the cost of resources and materials will be much appreciated. Your child can bring in their £1 on the day or you can contribute via Parent Pay. In the afternoon, we are having a Stay and Play session at 2.15pm. This is when parents are invited down to the Reception classrooms to stay and play with your child and see how well the children have settled in. You are welcome to take your child home with you any time after this.

Naming school items

Please spend some time this weekend making sure that everything has a name on, including water bottles. If something is not named and it gets lost then we won’t be able to get it back to you! PE kits will come home over half term for a wash and this is a great opportunity to check that all items in PE bags are labelled – including the bag itself.

Here are some things you could be doing with your child at home…

Please continue to check out Tapestry for daily videos from Jo and Hayley. If you search #phonics you’ll find all the videos!

Yesterday your child will have come home with a sheet of this week’s phonemes.

The sounds for this week are ‘ck’, ‘e’, ‘u’, and ‘r’.

Please practise them together. You could cut them up and stick them around the house, then go for a hunt to find them. When you find them, say the sound!

We have also started blending sounds to make words with the children. Blending is an important skill when reading. Here are a few oral blending games you may enjoy playing with your child. (Make sure you are

saying the phonetic sounds and not the letter names)

What sound does : an ow-l make? A m-ou-s-e make? A b-ee make? Can you touch your…? l-e-g, ch-ee-k ,b-a-ck, h-ee-l

This week we have learnt the tricky word ‘I’.
