JTLYK 27 September
Dear Parents and Carers,
The children have been working hard this week as we continue our study of Brazil. We researched the different layers of the Amazon rainforest and found out about the animals and plants that live in each level.
During our PSHE sessions, we talked about the size of our problems and how we might feel differently about them depending on our own experiences.
Have a great weekend,
Danni, Jo, Kathryn, Julia, Catherine and Mark.
English
We have spent the week inside the head of Stanley Yelnats, the protagonist in the book ‘Holes’. First we wrote letters from Stanley to his mum, being careful to ‘spin the truth’ so that she didn’t worry about him. Then, we wrote formal letters of complaint to the US Department of Health and Human Services, and this time we told the whole truth!
Maths
We have been focusing on subtraction in maths this week, including reviewing mental methods.
Once again, the ‘nasty/nice’ game challenged our skills with mental calculation. Later in the week, we tackled some worded problems, but had to be careful to figure out if we should be adding or subtracting in each one.
Coming up…
Friday 27 September – Trip to Wisley Gardens
We will be heading to the wonderful Wisley Gardens on Friday 27th September. Please make sure children have a packed lunch and full water bottle. Children will need to wear school uniform on this trip.
Friday 4 October – Judiciary Service
Next week, we will be visiting Holy Trinity Church for the Judiciary Service. This is a fantastic opportunity for the children to take part this important community event. Please make sure your child is wearing full school uniform in the morning and brings their PE kit in a bag to change into in the afternoon for Potted Sports.
Homework
We’ve been really pleased to see that most of the children are making the step up with homework and managing their workload very well. Please check that your child is completing their homework ready to hand in according to the timetable above. Remember, we don’t expect the children to spend more than 20 minutes on each piece.
Spellings
This week, we have been recapping the long ‘o’ sound and how it is represented in letters.
donor, donate, furlough, isolate, groan, grown, tomatoes, prohibited, compose, proceed.

If you are the class rep, please email us
Fundraising Team
Each year, parents and carers form a fundraising team dedicated to raising money to help cover the costs of Year 6 trips and gifts. Last year, the team worked incredibly hard to organise the Fun Run, which was a huge success.
In previous years, parents have formed sub-teams to focus on the yearbook and hoodies, and efforts have raised up to £5,000, which helped cover costs for various items, including Horseshoe Lake, hoodies, the Year 6 BBQ, and yearbooks. It’s important to get started as soon as possible!
If you’re interested in joining the fundraising team, please email your child’s class teacher.
