JTLYK 27 September
It’s been a great week again learning about healthy snacks in DT, our senses in science, a local hero in history and how to use a paint programme in computing.
Our local hero lesson was about Alan Turing – the inventor of the first computer. We learned that he lived some time ago in Guildford and that there is a statue of him at Surrey University. The children were fascinated to see how different early computers were compared to those we use today.
Science was interesting, using our senses to recognise tastes and smells, to listen closely to identify percussion instruments, to find carefully hidden objects around the room and to have fun with a feely bag!
Can you help to make our school beautiful and fun for the children?
We are enjoying the Year One areas greatly and would love to make them even better! If you can donate any bedding plants, small shrubs or bags of compost, we would be so grateful! Please just bring them along to the playground at morning or afternoon drop off/pick up.
Also, we need more sand for our new huge sandpit so if you can bring along a bag or 2 of sand we’d be thrilled. Thank you!
A few useful reminders:
- Reading books are coming home on Thursdays and need to be returned the following Monday.
- Please initial, or write a short message, in your child’s reading record each time they read with you so we can keep track of their reading at home. If you are having any problems with encouraging your child to read, please let us know and we can share a few tips with you.
Dates
- Half term – Early finish on Wednesday 23 October at 1:15
- Harvest assembly – Tuesday 8 October
- Individual photos – Tuesday 1 October
