JTLYK 20 December
We have had a fantastic week of Christmas joy where the children have had the chance to participate in different playtime events, have their Christmas lunch together and attend a church service! Thank you so much for our generous Christmas gifts and thoughtful cards. We really appreciate this.
This week’s learning:
English
This week, we have put together the techniques learnt previously on how to build suspense in an adventure story. These included empty words such as; something, it and nothing. The children also included direct speech and short sentences in their adventure stories. We also continued to retell the Nativity story using a comic book strip style, which the children really enjoyed doing.
Maths
We have continued to work very hard on our times-tables. Please do find time to practise your 3s, 4s, 5s, 10s and 2 times-tables.
DT
We had a DT day where the children learnt about joining levers together to create linkages. They learnt about the reverse linkage, the parallel linkage, bell crank sliders and the bell crank. They applied these when producing their own Christmas cards. We were so impressed with how creative they were!
Spellings
There are no spellings this week but please do refer to the back of your child’s reading record to revisit any that were particularly difficult over the last term.
Notices:
- Children will return to school on Tuesday 7 January 2025. It will be the start of Year 3’s Ancient Greek topic. It is a nice idea to find books/documentaries that are appropriate for children to encourage a love of this topic and familiarity with some of the vocabulary.
- 3G will be swimming for the spring term. This will start on Monday 13 January 2025.
- We are excited to be welcoming Abigail, who is returning from maternity leave, and will be teaching on a Monday and a Tuesday in 3G whilst Georgie is out of class carrying out her SENCO duties. The children had a really nice time seeing her on Tuesday.
