JTLYK 13 December

Dear parents and carers,

In maths this week, we began our unit looking at shapes. We recapped what both 2D and 3D shapes are and learnt some of their names. We also learnt to identify how many sides and vertices (corners) a 2D shape has. We also learnt the irregular shapes also have the same names as regular shapes they just don’t have equal sides and angles.

In English, we have been writing a diary entry based upon the initial moments of the Great Fire in 1666. The children wrote from the perspective of someone who lived during the fire and used their senses to describe their experiences while ensuring they wrote in the past tense.

We returned to the art that we started pre-nativitiy. We added line drawings over the top of our water colour flames creating images based on the Great Fire.

Our history topic then concluded with a comparison between modern day life and the conditions found in 1666.

A big thank you to Charlotte Roben for coming in and talking to the children about fire safety engineering.

Numbots

We have launched Numbots in Year 2 this week. It is an online maths game focussing on addition and subtraction and it really helps the children to consolidate on their basics in maths.

We have sent home a letter with each child which contains their login details and instructions on how to get them logged on.

It is free and works on phones, tablets and computers. As a school we generally encourage reduced screen time – but this is a constructive and fun way for your children to brush up on their basics.

Church Walkers

If anyone would like to join us for the walk down to St. Mary’s for our Carol Service next week, please let us know via email – your help would be very much appreciated!
