Pupil & Catchup Premium

What is Pupil Premium funding?

The Pupil Premium is an allocation of additional funding that is provided to schools to support specific groups of children who might be vulnerable to underachievement. Nationally these include pupils who are, or who have previously been, entitled to freeschool meals (FSM), those who are looked after by the local authority, those who have been adopted from care and the children of armed service personnel.

Schools are free to decide how to use this allocation, considering how best to support individual pupils with additional provision. All schools are now required to report on the amount of Pupil Premium funding received and how this funding is being used, as well as the impact of this funding on pupil progress.

How do we know this is making a difference?

We track the progress of every child at HTPD on a termly basis and we compare children according to several different characteristics, including FSM and against the progress of other children in the year group. The small number of children identified as receiving pupil premium in some year groups means that care is taken in determining the statistical significance of this comparison. It is more helpful to look at the individual children involved, to ensure that we identify any child who is not making expected progress and plan appropriate strategies to support them. We regularly assess the impact of any interventions funded by pupil premium in order to ensure that they are effective and targeted towards the children who need them. For more information on the Pupil Premium, please visit: www.education.gov.uk/schools/pupilsupport/premium

This is an important source of extra funding for the school and so, if you feel that your child may be entitled to free school meals, please contact the school office so that we can advise you in a confidential manner about how to apply.

Covid 19 Catch-Up Premium

As a result of the Covid19 pandemic, schools have received a sum of money which is to be spent on ensuring the educational deficit following lockdown. Take a look at our catch-up premium plan for details of how the funding is being spent at HTPD.
