JTLYK 22 November

Dear parents and carers,

This week has been full of excitement with our House competition, House Cup Stacking, taking place!  The children all took part and tried their hardest to stack and re-stack the cups as quickly as possible.  We found the winner for each house and finally the fastest child in the whole of Year 1! Well done to all of Year One for taking part.

Christmas Play Costumes

It’s that time of year when we are gearing up for our Pewley Down Christmas Play. This is taking place at Holy Trinity Church on Guildford High Street –see details below.

  • Beech class will be camels! We will provide headdresses for the children but please could you provide them with a costume which can be any outfit comprising of tops and trousers or leggings that are brown, orange, or yellow.
  • Oak class are going to be the traditional nativity shepherd. A great costume can be made from a slightly oversized t-shirt or shirt with a belt tied around the middle.  A headdress can be made by tying a cloth or tea towel around the head with a length of string or headband.

Please let us know if you have any questions about the costumes. They only need to be very simple and we wouldn’t want you spending money on a costume for one dazzling performance.  Please just ask if you need help with any part of the costume.

Maths

This week we introduced the difficult challenge of mixing up addition and subtraction questions! The children have to work very carefully to remember to read the question correctly. You can try these at home and see how your child gets on. They have practised very hard at school!

2+2=     2-1=    10+1=

10-5=    10-2=    8+2=

The Wonderful Wild Place

Thanks to all the parents who came with us to the Wild Place on Thursday.  What a great day it was. The children had a wonderful visit and totally revelled in some outdoor learning despite the cold and damp!

We would love more parent helpers to come with us so if you are free and able to join us, please email us. We will leave school at 1.30pm and will return by 2.45pm at the very latest. If you are only available once in a while, please let us know that you might have some availability and we’ll make a note that you are a ‘once in a while’ helper! We’d love any help any time.
