JTLYK 11 October

We have had another great week in year 1. This week we learnt about two more of our house heroes – Ernest Shackleton and Nelson Mandela. It was really interesting to learn about them and all they achieved. We also did our first bit of Geography this week! The children really enjoyed getting out atlases and looking at maps and globes to identify the different places some of our house heroes were born and lived. They all identified on a map Italy and Antarctica, as well as looking at lots of images of these places.

Harvest assembly was a highlight of this week, we all loved singing the harvest songs together. Thank you for all your donations of food and supplies, they will be so appreciated by Guildford Foodbank.

This week also entailed lots of maths, phonics, reading, music, RE, PE, computing and our first official art lesson of Year 1. In this art lesson we looked at the illustrator Roger Hargreaves. He illustrated the Mr Men and Little Miss books. We looked at his style and then designed and drew our very own Mr Men and Little Miss characters. It was lots of fun!

A few useful reminders:

Reading books are coming home on Thursdays and need to be returned the following Monday.
