JTLYK 4 October

Dear Parents and Carers,

The children had a thoughtful time at Holy Trinity Church this morning for the Service of the Judiciary. They represented the school well and enjoyed watching the procession along the High Street.

It’s Fluffy on Friday 18 October. Please don’t forget to make the £1 contribution, which goes towards all the activities planned for the day.

Have a great weekend,

Danni, Jo, Kathryn, Julia, Catherine and Mark.

English

This week, we’ve been crafting our own poems, inspired by Brian Patten’s *The River’s Story*. Using it as a model, we wrote poems centred on deforestation, adopting the perspective of a tree in the rainforest. Our poems explored a rich variety of figurative language, including metaphors, similes, alliteration, personification, and onomatopoeia, to bring the voice of the tree to life.

Maths

This week we have been recalling key multiplication and division facts. We played different games with playing cards, dice and dominos to help us to rapidly recall our facts.

We have also revisited how to multiply and divide numbers by 10, 100 and 1000.

We have also been identifying common factors and common multiples.

Ask your child if they can identify the common factors of 24 and 32

Coming up…

  • Monday 7 October - Year 6 Height and Weight Checks
  • Wednesday 9 October - HT Harvest Festival - We will be marking the Harvest Festival with a collection of donations in the chapel. Please send your child in with a non-perishable.
  • Monday 14 October – HT Photos - We will be having individual school photographs taken. Please ensure your child comes into school in full school uniform and is ready to say “cheese!”

Homework

Please check that your child is completing their homework ready to hand in according to the timetable above. Remember, we don’t expect the children to spend more than 20 minutes on each piece.

Spellings

This week, we have been recapping the long ‘u’ sound and how it is represented in letters.

beautiful, ambiguous, annual, contribute, distribute, queue, shrewd, statue, route, neutral

Learn these throughout the week ready for a quiz on Monday 7 October.
