JTLYK 27 September

Dear parents/carers,

We’ve had another wonderful week in Year 3! We began by recapping our knowledge of the digestive system. Can your child remember the journey food takes from the mouth to the toilet? Later in the week, we shifted our focus to teeth. We’ve been thinking about their design and purpose, as well as the importance of keeping them clean.

As part of this, we set up an experiment by submerging eggshells (which are made of a similar substance to teeth) in different liquids to observe the effects. We also coated another set of eggshells in toothpaste to see if it makes a difference. The experiment will continue over the weekend, and we’ll check the results during Tuesday’s science lesson.

In maths, we’ve been working on number lines and learning how to make estimations. We explored different number lines and discussed strategies for making accurate estimates, such as finding the midpoint and working from there.

Below is an example question.

In English, we have been reading a powerful picture book called My Name is Not Refugee, which tells the story of a young boy forced to flee his home and move to a new country. We are connecting this story with our school value, "imagining the journey in another’s footsteps," to help the children empathize with others' experiences
