No. 241 - 14 June

Dear Parents and Carers,

Last week’s Fun Run was a wonderful occasion. Huge thanks to the committee for giving up their time, energy and organisational skills to create such a great event which raised a fantastic £5,200! It was so good to spend time chatting and being family together…as well as to admire all the athletes who ran so expertly! I think my favourite moment was seeing the infants chasing after the flying squirrel! Well done to Ethan (a previous pupil) for being happy to look ridiculous and have over a hundred little people stampeding behind him. What a good sport!

The juniors are enjoying me trying to “find my sport” each week in Friday’s assembly – and you all inspired me with your commitment! Thank you for coming along and for your generous contributions to our school funds!

Talking of sports, Potted Sports today has been brilliant. Our Y6 sports leaders designed and ran the whole occasion with a carousel of eight inclusive activities, ranging from sit-down volleyball to an equestrian event on hobby horses, to rugby sevens and golf! With the whole school taking part and earning points for the individual houses, it’s been a day when “learning to live” was clear to see! Such great team spirit, joy and encouragement! Thanks as well to Tom Everard for pulling it all together.

Also today, Year 2 had an imaginary flight on Pewley airlines to Sydney, Australia as part of their geography topic. They looked the part in their holiday outfits and wheeling on their suitcases! What a great way to learn about somewhere so far away. It’ll probably be something they’ll remember for a very long time – the day they pretended to fly to the other side of the world to listen to an Australian visitor (who happens to be a parent!) explain what it’s like there. We’re so grateful to be able to make use of so many different parents and friends of the school to bring learning alive like this. Do remember to let us know if you have specific expertise or skills that link to our curriculum – we love having visitors in school!

On a completely different theme, sometimes parents ask me what to do if they’re worried about another member of our school community. I wanted to remind you that our child protection and safeguarding policy is on our website and that we each share a responsibility to keep one another, and especially the children, safe. You can always feel free to speak to me or to any of our team of designated safeguarding leads (DSLs). Just as a reminder, they are Lilja Helgadottir, Tom Everard, Lucy Cray, Sheena Preston and Nick Walker. We’re all happy to talk about all sorts of concerns – and know how to respond appropriately. Feel free to call about anything that troubles you or if you’re worried about someone else.

Next week, Year 6 are excited to be heading off to Shropshire for their residential trip – I’ll be joining them for part of the time. It’s going to be such a lovely few days – I remember many of them starting at Pewley seven years ago, and it seems like yesterday that they joined HT in Year 3; it’ll be great to enjoy time with them all before they head off to secondary school. Meanwhile, back at school, Pewley have a jam-packed healthy week planned – we’re just hoping the weather improves a little for plenty of time outdoors!

With much love,

Clare

Thought of the week: Bee peacemakers – How can you be a peacemaker today? “Blessed are the peacemakers, for they shall be called children of God.”

Whole School

School is closed on Monday 24 June for the Midsummer holiday.

Birthdays at HTPD - we don’t hand out sweets or cake on birthdays, so instead, if you would like to, you could buy a book for the class library. Your child could then enjoy presenting a gift to the class! This is optional, but it might be easier than providing fruit or other healthy snacks. Feel free to wrap up the gift to be joyfully unwrapped in school!

Holy Trinity Church Pet Service on Sunday 16 Juneplease see the flyer below for details.

If your child attends after-school clubs, do check the notices below by clicking on the junior or infant section.
