13 September 2019

Dear Parents and Carers,

Thank you for such a good first full week of the term! I’ve loved getting to know our new children – they have really impressed me with their confidence and hopeful attitude to so much that is new! I’m sure they’ll appreciate a rest this weekend; getting into a routine after a long summer break tires all of us out and we’ve commented today that it’ll be good to have time to stop. The junior school “Meet the Team” evening seemed to go very well with such an enthusiastic turn out and plenty of offers of help for the year ahead. Thank you! I look forward to seeing our infant school families next Wednesday 18th – we’ll start in the hall at 7pm before spending time in the classrooms hearing about each year groups plans.

Can I remind you all to make sure that if you drop your children at school before 8.30 in the morning, they need to go to Breakfast Club. No staff are on duty in the playground and we have to ensure that they are supervised so that everyone is safe.

It’s been fun getting started with our assembly series. This term, we’re thinking about Wisdom. The Book of Proverbs in the Bible is a good place to start with its wise and varied sayings – each week, I’ll highlight one in the newsletter. It will have been the backbone to all the discussions, drama and stories in assembly. You might like to chat about the theme at home. The children have amazed me with their insight already. I’ll also put in the link to our assembly slide show. There’s always plenty of laughter included too – at the juniors we were joined today by an opera expert, Sue Prano. And at the infants we took part in an episode of Ready Steady Cook!

With best wishes, Clare

Thought of the week: 'The Word of the Lord gives life.' (Proverbs 4 v 22) Where do you get your wisdom from?

INFANT AND JUNIOR

Parking

The roads around school are always very busy at drop off and pick up times and can be dangerous. In order to make things as safe as possible and to respect our neighbours who live nearby, we ask that you:

  • Only park in marked parking spaces (not on the zig zags, on pavements or blocking driveways).
  • Use our informal one-way system (at the infants, driving down Semaphore Road towards Pewley Way, and at the juniors, driving along Pewley Way and onto Addison Road).
  • Avoid parking in Pewley Bank which is a private road, or in Cline Road which is too narrow for two-way traffic (and definitely keep the turning circle clear).
  • Avoid parking in either staff car park (there aren’t enough spaces for parents and it makes the driveway dangerous for children if people drive in at drop off and pick up).
  • If you can, park a bit further away and walk.

INFANT

Meet the Team evening, Wednesday 18 September, 7.00pm in the hall
We look forward to seeing you at the Meet the Team evening on Wednesday.

Phonics Evening Year R, Tuesday 24 September, 7.00pm

Nasal Flu vaccination (all year groups)
You should have received a ParentMail earlier this week with information on the nasal flu vaccination and an e-consent form. The deadline for completion is Tuesday 22 October. Please let us know if you did not receive the ParentMail or if, as a new parent, you have not received a registration email for ParentMail. It may be that we don’t have your correct details in our system.

PUPS (after school club) changes
A reminder that there has been a change to the timing of the PUPS tea which is now served in the second session. The charge for the first session (3.00 – 4.30pm) is £7.00 per day, and for the second session (4.30 to 6.00pm) it is £8.00 (including tea).

Aldi’s Kit for Schools
We’re collecting Team GB stickers with Aldi’s Kit for Schools. If you spend £30 in any Aldi store you will receive a Team GB athlete sticker. Help us collect 300 stickers to complete our poster and we’ll receive an exclusive sports kit plus a chance to win £20,000.

Birthday Treats
Many children like to bring in treats for their class mates when it is their birthday. However, we would ask that these treats are limited to fruit rather than sweets or chocolate.

Newsletter
We have printed paper copies of the newsletter for the first two weeks of term, but from next week the newsletter will just be available on the website and we will send out a ParentMail reminder with the link on Friday afternoons. Please let the office know if you do still require a paper copy.
