HTPD 7/9/18

07 September 2018

Dear Parents and Carers,

What a superb start to the year! A very special welcome to all the new families and children joining the school across both sites. It’s been lovely to see so many smiling, excited children, full of hope and confidence!

As a staff, we spent Tuesday, our first INSET training day, considering our school values and also our vocation. We walked together in the beautiful countryside, completing challenges, working together as teams and getting ready for the year ahead. It was excellent to see how enthusiastic, supportive and professional the staff are – they are all determined to provide the very best education that they can!

Now that the children have arrived too, the school is alive with the buzz of learning. One of the first tasks has been to design class charters; together with their teachers, the children have considered how to make the most of the year ahead. They’ve thought about the kind of behaviours, attitudes and organisation that will ensure they have a happy class. Ideas included determination to be punctual in the morning, arriving with the right equipment, being respectful to others, completing work to the best of their ability, joining in with opportunities offered, and being kind. We’ll be sending these home this year so that you can take a look at what they intend to do, and share in their determination to make this a really successful year. Maybe pin it to the fridge and chat about how they’re getting on every now and then.

One of the trickier aspects of life at HTPD is the drop off and pick up situation in the roads around the school. It’s always very busy and can be dangerous. In order to make things as safe as possible and to respect our neighbours who live nearby, we ask you to do the following:

  • If you can, park a bit further away and walk (older children in Y5 and Y6 love the independence of walking to and from school on their own)
  • Avoid parking in either staff car parks (there aren’t enough spaces for parents and it makes the driveway dangerous for children if people drive in at drop off and pick up)
  • Only park in marked parking spots (not on the zig zags, on pavements, or blocking driveways)
  • Use our informal one-way system (at the infants, driving down Semaphore Road towards Pewley Way, and at the juniors, driving along Pewley Way and onto Addison Road)
  • Avoid parking in Pewley Bank which is a private road, or in Cline Road which is too narrow for two way traffic (and definitely keep the turning circle clear)
  • Avoid leaving engines running so that the air around school stays free of petrol fumes

Thank you for your help with all of this which is greatly appreciated.

I’m looking forward to meeting up with all of you at the upcoming Meet the Team evenings (Yrs 3-6 7pm, Thursday 13th September and YrR-2 7pm Wednesday 19th September), but I’m sure I’ll see many of you before then in the playground or on the drive. Do get in touch, either with your child’s teacher, with me, or with another member of the leadership team if you have any concerns or worries about the start of the year. We really do value your partnership in your child’s education and thank you in advance for what promises to be an excellent year!

With best wishes, Clare

Details for ParentPay
We've had lots of enquiries about ParentPay our on-line payment system. It's a slightly tricky situation in that we need to leave all the old year 6's now and then add the new year 3's who will only be properly brought onto SIMS when they are admitted so it takes a little while to do it.   You ought to receive a letter from the Finance Office in the next 10 days or so with instructions of how to set up your account and logon. Your unique code that you need to use to get into your account will be included so please do look out for it. If you have any queries relating to ParentPay, please do speak with Flora in the Finance Office or contact her by email on florab@htpd.surrey.sch.uk

Your child will be able to have their school dinners regardless so please don't worry that you are in credit to start with - you can make a payment when you log on for the first time. Please do try to keep your lunch account topped up. We encourage parents to pay for dinners at least monthly and all other trips promptly. A small discount is available on school dinners if you wish to pay termly in advance or for the whole school year - please refer to the Parents' Handbook that you should have received from the school at the end of last term at the Parents' Evening. Do speak with Sheryl or Sue in the Front Office if you don't have one or if you have misplaced it!

After School Clubs
Please see the attached After School Clubs List which gives all the information you need as to when and where. May we remind you please that should you choose a club marked with an asterisk (*) the club is run privately, at school, and has to be paid for. Please liaise with the person running that club. All the other clubs are teacher-led and free of charge.

Book Club will start on Wednesday 19th September, please email geraldinet@htpd.surrey.sch.uk if you wish to join. Look forward to seeing you there.

Sport

Holy Trinity Pewley Down Swim Club (HTPDSC)
We offer one hour lessons at St. Catherine’s School pool in Bramley on a Friday afternoon from 4.30 p.m. onwards, term time only.

If your child can swim 10-15m+ or ASA Stage 4 and above they will be eligible for our 4.30-5.30 p.m. Technique group.

We also offer a 5.30-6.30 pm. Squad training session for children able to swim 50m and above.  Both sessions cover stroke technique and endurance work as well as diving and give the swimmers the opportunity to acquire the skills necessary to potentially represent their School in swimming galas.

Due to our Year 6 leavers, there will be vacancies in the HTPDSC from September 2018.  Please contact Jan Griffiths, Swimming Coach, on 02392 351425 or email janharley@msn.com for further information or to arrange a free trial.

FOPS NEWS

Hello and welcome to all new parents joining FOPS and existing members.

Hope you all had a great summer and are ready to get involved and help out in this year’s school fund raising activities and social events.

Firstly and urgently we are looking for a new chair or a small group of chair persons to take over running FOPS from September. Can YOU help? It’s a great opportunity to get involved with the school community, raise funds, organise social events and make great changes for all our children a reality. With educational budgets tightening the fund raising role of the PTA is becoming more and more vital so please consider it carefully.

Also we still need class reps for most of the classes so please, if you feel you are the one who could take on this position please get in touch with Ruth in the school office.
