HTPD 23/9/16

23 September 2016

Dear parents,

It’s been lovely to see how quickly our Reception children have settled into life at school – they are already keen to learn, they are growing in independence, and are looking far more confident as they find their way around the school. Similarly, the Year 3 children are becoming more relaxed, they’ve enjoyed getting stuck into a whole variety of clubs, and they are building warm, positive relationships with their peers and with staff.

I hope our new parents and carers also feel part of the school now. I enjoyed meeting with our new staff this week, reflecting on their first few days at HTPD and considering whether there were any other ways we could have made their start easier. Please do let me know if you have any ideas about ways to make those early days even more welcoming. Do put Tuesday 4 October in your diary – we’ve planned an exciting “Maths Day” for the children. Look out on the JTLYKs for details of how you can be involved. There will also be an opportunity to come into school up to 4.30pm on that day to find out what sort of maths is going on in your child’s class.

I also enjoyed meeting with both HTSC and FOPS committees this week; it’s exciting to plan together events for the year ahead, with plenty of enthusiasm for fundraising as well as creating even more opportunities for building the school community. Our school development plan for the year is giving us all so many great ideas for improving the school for all the children. If you didn’t get a copy at the “meet the team” evenings, do take a look at the version on our website. Also on our website, we’ve added a link to a parent information site for guidance on protecting your child when they use the internet.

I’d like to draw your attention to next week’s Harvest Celebrations which are part of our normal assembly series. We will again be collecting food parcels for Guildford Action so do send your child in with any dry goods (pasta, tins of soup, packets of biscuits, tea etc..) on Wednesday. It’s a good opportunity to remind the children of the importance of kindness, generosity and caring for others.

With love, Clare

May we remind you that we have new procedures for sport letters and permission slips: We have a new procedure for both children and parents to communicate with the school regarding Sports Fixtures.

We will no longer be handing out letters to children with details of a fixture and a permission slip to hand back to school.

The new procedures are as follows:

Once a team has been selected an announcement will be made in Assembly that the team sheet has been posted on the SPORTS NOTICEBOARD which is located outside the year 4 classrooms for children to view.

An email will then be sent to the parents of the children selected. The email will include a letter which will be identical to previous letter templates, and will include the following:

* Details of the fixture, including venue and timings
* A permission slip for parents to fill out allowing children to participate
* An agreement that kit will be returned to school washed and ready to wear
* An agreement that it is parent's responsibility to collect their child from the fixture
* If the fixture is away, offers of lifts to the venue.

Parents can either respond by filling out the permission slip and replying by email or print the email out, fill in the permission slip and send the slip in to school.
