HTPD 30/9/16

30 September 2016

Dear parents

Thank you so much for your generous harvest gifts – the children were really able to understand how they can bring God’s love into the world when they saw how much food we were giving away! Guildford Action picked up a van full of produce from both sites today and I know it will be much appreciated! At both harvest celebrations, it was so good to be joined by Katie Thomas, the curate from Holy Trinity Church, and she inspired us all with her prayer that helped us reflect on our own individual lives by likening each of us to a harvest field.

I do hope you are able to join us for next Tuesday’s maths day. All the year groups will be enjoying a day full of topic-linked maths activities and then you are very welcome to join us after school to find out what the children have been getting up to. Check the JTLYK pages for details!

Another way to get involved in the life of the school is to volunteer to help out on Fluffy Friday (October 14th). Let JJ know at the juniors, especially if you’d like to run an activity, just tell class teachers at the infants. We always appreciate an extra pair of hands in all the sessions, and if you’d like to run a session, the children love to experience something a bit different. Over the years, we’ve had parents running beauty parlours, a day being nature detectives, teaching us how to write Egyptian hieroglyphics, explaining how to look after horses….the list goes on! Just let JJ know how many children you’d be comfortable working with – it could be as small a group as 6-10 children.

It’s been great to see all our after school and lunch time clubs up and running. I’m so glad the children enjoy such a huge variety of extracurricular activities. One club at the juniors that I’m really keen to rejuvenate is the orchestra. If your child has instrumental music lessons, please do encourage them to come along to Wednesday lunch time’s orchestra – it’s such a lovely opportunity to share their instrument with others and learn how to fit into ensemble playing. There’s also an amazing chance for them to play in next term’s concert at GLive!

With best wishes
Clare

Teacher-led clubs, Tuesday 4 October
Owing to the Maths Day, all teacher-led clubs at the infants and juniors will be cancelled on Tuesday.

Parent governor election
We are very pleased by the interest shown in the parent governor vacancies at HTPD. As the number of nominations received exceeds the number of vacancies, a secret ballot will now be held at each site. Ballot papers will be sent home in book bags on Monday 3 October. Please note that parents of current pupils are eligible to vote, but can vote only once regardless of how many children they may have at the school.

Break times
It looks like the latest craze is Pokemon cards! Whilst we love seeing the children enjoying their hobbies at break time, it would be sensible for them to look after their collections carefully. We would encourage children to just bring in a few cards and not risk losing their whole set at school. Talk to your children about how to look after valuable things really well.

Thank you for ensuring that your children just bring healthy snacks to school for break time. Fruit and vegetables are the only things they can have at break, and they leave less litter too! This really helps us to reinforce our healthy school message.

Please do remember that we are a nut-free school. It's really important that children don't bring anything containing nuts even when they're on a school trip. Thanks for helping to keep the school safe for everyone!
