Dear Parents

Last week it was Meet the Teacher and I hope you were able to come along. It is so important to get to know this person who will be spending 7 hours a day, 5 days and 38 weeks a year with your child. It is up to parents and teachers alike to forge a good working relationship with each other for the child to continue to make good progress within a happy and caring environment. The environment for learning is so important and we often talk about the ‘feeling tone’ within a classroom at any particular time. I think I have now visited all 18 class bases whilst they were in session and I am pleased to report the tone was positive in all of them.

At the meeting for all the staff I stated my thoughts about the three conditions which enable children to gain the very most from their school experience:

The first is that the children are enfolded in love. They are unique, special, cared for and valued. Secondly that in what we say and do we strive to build up and not to put down. The vast majority of our children are bright, confident and have a high level of self-esteem, and this enables them to succeed. The third condition is that we seek for children to reach their personal best in all aspects of their work and other activities.

You can and do play a huge part in the whole process. It is clearly the school's responsibility to teach grammar, tables and the zones within the Amazonian Rain forest. It is for you to support, encourage and practise. We do also hope many of you will volunteer to help within the school. Both sites desperately need helpers in many areas and you will be welcomed with open arms. Remember the games makers from the 2012 Olympics and their enormous contribution towards making the games a success, well the same is true for school. You can make a real difference.

We now try to offer many activities for their lasting value and those which involve parent helpers are right up there at the top of the list.

We are sad that Hannah who is a teacher in year 2 will be leaving us for Australia at the end of term. This will be a prolonged stay for her and we wish her all the best – she has made a great contribution to the school. We will be appointing a new teacher in October. The job is advertised on the school website and Eteach.

Thank you for your help.
With best wishes, Richard

A message from the Governors:

Dear Parents and Carers

At the governors' meeting on Monday, a timetable and list of actions were agreed in order to start the process of appointing a new headteacher for when Richard retires. One of the key points agreed was the need to keep parents and carers informed, and ensure that they had an opportunity to put forward their views.

The governors are therefore holding a meeting to provide information on the appointment process and seek parents'/carers' views, and all parents/carers are very welcome to attend. In order to accommodate as many parents and carers as possible, two identical meetings will be held on: Tuesday 30th September at 9am in Pewley Down hall and Wednesday 1st October at 7.45pm in Holy Trinity Year 6 area.

Parents and carers from either school are welcome to attend whichever meeting is most convenient for them.

At the meetings we will explain the process of appointing a new headteacher and also seek parents'/carers' views on what qualities they consider to be important in the new head of Holy Trinity Pewley Down School.

Is your child eligible for free school meals?
Please register by the October census for the funding
Please contact the school office if there is any possibility that your child is eligible to receive free school meals or if you would like advice about this scheme and help in making an application. Free school meal registration brings significant funding for the school from the government to support your child’s education in many ways, through the Pupil Premium scheme and other budget funding factors (£5,643 per child for those on the October census). Registering for free school meals is of course entirely confidential. Speak to Lesley or email finance@holytrinity.surrey.sch.uk

Even if you do not wish to take up the free school dinner, or your child is receiving free infant meals, there are nevertheless educational benefits for your child if you are registered for free school meals. This needs to be registered immediately as we have to send returns on October 1st.

Please note that Lucy Cray has a new mobile telephone number should you wish to contact her – 07500 663277.
