Infant 26/9/14

26 September 2014

A message from the Governors:

Dear Parents and Carers,
At the governors' meeting last Monday, a timetable and list of actions were agreed in order to start the process of appointing a new headteacher for when Richard retires. One of the key points agreed was the need to keep parents and carers informed, and ensure that they had an opportunity to put forward their views. The governors are therefore holding a meeting to provide information on the appointment process and seek parents'/carers' views, and all parents/carers are very welcome to attend. In order to accommodate as many parents and carers as possible, two identical meetings will be held on:
Tuesday 30th September at 9am in Pewley Down hall and
Wednesday 1st October at 7.45pm in Holy Trinity Year 6 area.
Parents and carers from either school are welcome to attend whichever meeting is most convenient for them.
At the meetings we will explain the process of appointing a new headteacher and also seek parents'/carers' views on what qualities they consider to be important in the new head of Holy Trinity Pewley Down School.

Assembly
We were very pleased to have a visit from a Fire Safety Officer in assembly today. She spoke to the children about what the Fire Service does to keep us safe and also gave us some sensible tips. See if your children can remember what she said

House Assembly

We had our first house assembly on Wednesday and the Year R children were welcomed into their new houses where they found out about their house hero and met their Year 1 and 2 house buddies. They also heard about two exciting house events that are taking place during this half term:

The first event is house netball/benchball which will take place next week. The children will participate in throwing, catching and shooting activities and will earn points for their teams. We will announce the winning house in assembly.

The second event is our house poetry event. The children have been invited to learn a poem that they can recite by heart to their house friends. If your child would like to join in and speak in front of a group of about 40 children please help them to find and learn a poem of their choosing. The recitals will take place on Thursday 10th October. The poem doesn't need to be long or difficult; the main aim of the event to encourage the children to develop further their love of poetry and it will be a jolly and friendly affair. The children can learn their poem by heart or they can read their poem if they don't feel ready to learn it all.

Uniform Shop
The uniform shop will no longer be open on a Wednesday morning. If you require school uniform please come to the school office and complete an order form. Your order will be ready to collect within 24 hours, stock permitting. We are still looking for someone to take over school uniform orders. For more information please contact the school office or Sarah Williams (slswilliams@googlemail.com).

IQ Christmas Cards:
You may not have noticed but it's almost Christmas! The children in Years R and 1 have designed Christmas cards this week which you will find in their book bags. Year 2 children have been given a blank template to create their own design at home. The cards are very good quality and raise a significant amount of money for the school. If you would like to order cards and/or wrapping paper with your child's design, please complete the form and return it to the School Office with payment by 10 October 2014. Please contact Liz van Eykenhof (lizz_arnold@hotmail.com) if you have any questions about the Christmas cards.

Northbrook Wrapping Paper:
You will also be receiving a Northbrook Wrapping Paper leaflet in your child's book bag this week. The wrapping paper is great value and always very popular. Why not cross another job off the Christmas list and order your wrapping paper before half term? The school receives commission on every order. Please contact Cherrie Gluyas (cherrygluey@yahoo.com) if you have any questions.

Christmas Fair - 7 December 2014:
The Christmas Fair will take place on Sunday 7 December from 12pm to 2pm. Please put the date in your diaries! We have already started the preparations. Isabel Castro has kindly volunteered to co-ordinate the search for raffle prizes. She is looking for a small team of people to approach local businesses for prizes. If you are willing to get involved with this or if you know of a local business that might be prepared to donate a prize, please contact Isabel.
