Infant 6/9/13

06 September 2013

Dear Parents,

Welcome back to a new year at Holy Trinity Pewley Down. We have had a very good start in all areas of the school. It has been great to see the children in Year R and 3 settling so well into their new environment. We thank all the staff who made these transitions so good. We have tried to think of all situations which may arise and how children and families will cope with them. Please let me know how the process of joining the school for the first time or moving on to the junior school has been for you, as we are always seeking to improve. We welcome three new full time teachers to the school: Claire Cruddas is in Year 3, Heather Havermans changes her role and becomes a teacher in Year 5, Cheryl Brace is working in Year 6.

Talking about new beginnings some parents will be interested to know that Victoria Reiblein has had a baby boy – Toby who the staff met at a party yesterday. Henry’s wife Juliette is due to have a baby anytime and Bec is leaving today to start maternity leave. I will let you know as soon as we have news!

It’s been a productive time for the school buildings. At Pewley Down the roof is being replaced as is all the guttering. This £170,000 project has been ninety per cent funded through the Diocese with most of the remaining ten per cent generously donated by FOPS (Friends of Pewley School). At Holy Trinity the Chapel floor is now in place – again thanks to your giving through HTSC (Holy Trinity School Community). I am so grateful to our two PTAs for all their hard work which makes such a difference. Further fundraising is very important to continue these and other projects.

Please can I draw everyone’ s attention to the Meet the Teacher/Curriculum Evening on Tuesday 10 September at Pewley Down and Tuesday 17 September at Holy Trinity. These are key meetings which set out the programme for the year and give a lot of vital information. On this occasion I will be speaking about our way forward with homework.

All the staff our very excited about the challenges of this next year and we look forward to working closely with you.

With very best wishes, Richard

PS. We are very keen to obtain a piano for the Chapel. This could be either a standard upright or a high quality electric piano. Please let us know if you are able to make this donation and we will arrange transport. Thank you.

Meet the Team, Tuesday 10 September, 7.00pm
We look forward to seeing you at the ‘Meet the Team’ evening next Tuesday. This is an opportunity to meet the teaching staff and find out what your child will be doing in the year ahead. Please go straight to your child’s classroom on arrival. This will be followed by the FOPS AGM at 8.00pm in the hall.

Teacher-led clubs
Letters about the teacher-led clubs will come out next Wednesday 11th for Years 1 and 2 and clubs will start in the week beginning 23 September. Reception Year will have an opportunity to join teacher-led clubs in the summer term.

Year 2 swimming
Swimming lessons for Year 2 start next Wednesday 11 September. Children should come to school in their PE kits (house T-shirt, joggers/shorts and trainers) and bring a small rucksack with their swimming kit. Girls must have a swimming cap and have their hair tied back.

Thank you
Very many thanks (from all the staff) for the lovely presents and cards received at the end of last term. We really do appreciate your generosity and good wishes.

Building Work
A big ‘thank you’ as well for your patience and understanding while the building work on the roof is going on.

Welcome
We are very pleased to welcome Maggie and Gillian who have joined the Year 2 teaching team having previously taught at the junior site for many years. We also welcome Rhian and Sachin who will be working in Willow Class and Gemma who has joined our catering team.

School Lunches
The cost of a school lunch is now £2.30 per day (£11.50 per week). You can pay for lunches weekly, fortnightly, monthly, half termly or termly. Please send your payment to the office (cheque or cash – exact money if possible) in an envelope marked with child’s name and class.

Buggies
In order to ease congestion in the corridors, please leave buggies outside in the playground rather than indoors.
