Infant 27/9/13

27 September 2013

Dear Parents,

On Monday evening the parents’ focus group are meeting. This time it is specifically to talk about how the induction into the school worked, what went well and what could be improved upon.

Whether you had a child starting at the infants or the juniors we would like to hear from you. We know that both of these occasions are potentially traumatic for children and frustrating for parents. Our aim is for children to be really comfortable about coming to their new school and have no worries or ‘what ifs’. For parents we want them to be fully confident their child is safe and happy, that communication is good and they know the systems and how they work. We really want to be the best in this important part of school life.

Please email with any thoughts and we will put these into the face to face discussion on Monday evening and may use them next year in our induction programme. It is important to know what went well as well as what went less well.
If anyone has a particular interest in this subject do feel free to join the focus group on Monday night at 7.45 p.m. We will meet in 6SC – the first class you reach at the very top of the ramps in Holy Trinity School. Please enter by the double doors near the staffroom. Ginnie Gregory and Nicola Bridal will be joining me and after some initial sharing altogether we plan to break into three discussion groups.

With best wishes, Richard

Autumn Days A poem by Olive Wickham 4S

Today is Autumn and so is tomorrow,
So I climbed two hills named heart and sorrow,
Wind in my face, soft fluffy flowers,
I stopped and I stayed, viewing for hours
Big bushy tree’s, Autumn brown leaves
Gold in the sun nice for everyone,
No one for miles just me and the hand of god and Autumn

Meeting for new parent helpers, Monday 30 September, 2.30pm: Please come along to the staffroom if you are thinking of helping out in school (all year groups).

Year 2 trip to Farmers’ Market, Tuesday 1 October: If any more parents can help with the visit to the Farmers’ Market on Tuesday please let Maggie, Gillian or Sheena know. Please bring in a donation of £1 (to the office) so that the children can buy some things at the market to bring back and share.

Harvest Assembly, Friday 4 October: Our Harvest Assembly this year will be a low key event just for the children. We are collecting for the Syria Crisis Appeal and the Number 5 Project (a local homeless charity). If you would like to contribute please bring in:
• Cash donations in a marked envelope to the office (for Syria Crisis Appeal)
• Dried / tinned food or toiletries to the boxes in the hall (for Number 5). The collection boxes will be available in the hall throughout the week.

Eco-team: The Eco-team have just had their first meeting and have lots of ideas for projects this year including: re-painting the eco-house, mini-beast hunting, planting bulbs in the playgrounds, making posters to encourage energy-saving and much more.
The members of the Eco-Team are: Aidan, Savannah, Anna, Sarah and Zeb in Year 2, and Eliana, Jacob, Scarlett and JJ in Year 1.

Gardening help: If any parents would be happy to come in and do some pruning on the front playground please e-mail Sarah (sarahm@pewleydown.surrey.sch.uk).

NUTS: Please do not send your children to school with any nuts in their lunchboxes including those in cereal bars or cake toppings. We do have a number of children in school with a nut allergy.

Start time: School 'opens' at 8.40 am. We would ask that parents do not come into school before then as staff are getting ready for the day.
