• Pewley Christmas Fair Tomorrow - Saturday 3-5.30pm

No 155

04 October 2019

Dear Parents and Carers,

On Thursday afternoon, twelve schools gathered together on Pewley Down for the first of the season’s cross country. What a wonderful occasion! Our runners showed their usual commitment and enthusiasm and it was just lovely to see so many other Guildford schools’ teams joining in the fun. All the children’s PE lessons are a really important part of the week; do talk to your children about this part of the curriculum. For many of them, it’s where they can show real talent in sports skills as well as team work, communication and resilience. Our vast numbers of sporting clubs are also successfully up and running! And last week, our brilliant Year 2 football team visited Aldro to compete in a tournament against lots of other seven year olds - we’re so proud of all the children’s commitment to a healthy lifestyle.

Next week I’m excited to be talking to the children about a really important fundraiser we’re going to be working on this year. As our theme of this week says, I’m believing in the impossible, and praying for the campaign’s success! You may remember at the start of term I mentioned our Pitch2020 campaign to replace the junior school astro as it reaches the end of its life. We’re hoping that any young graphic designers and artists will be able to inspire us with their creativity – and will be inviting children to design a logo for the appeal. I’m sure they’ll tell you all about it, but do encourage them to join in!

I’ve sadly had a couple of times this week when our neighbours, and sometimes parents, have experienced grumpy car drivers around the school. Can I ask that we try to consider others, that we leave just that little bit more time to ensure we stay respectful and calm, and that we make sure pedestrians are safe on the paths around school. It’s also so important that the children see adults behaving well and living out our school values.

Finally, I need to just clarify one thing with you all. Please would you, and any other adults visiting or picking up / dropping off children at the start or end of the school day, not enter the children’s toilets. Obviously this would be a safeguarding concern. If you need our help with finding something, just ask and we can accompany you.

With best wishes, Clare

Fluffy Friday
Please return your completed Fluffy choice form by Monday 7 October.

School Photos, Friday 11 October
The school photographer will be visiting on Friday 11 October to take individual photographs of the children so please remember smart school uniform that day.

IQ Christmas Cards
Please look out (in your child’s book bag) for the beautiful Christmas card designs they have created. Unfortunately time has crept up on us this year and in order for the cards to be ready for early December, orders need to be sent to the school office by EARLY NEXT WEEK. Please try to get your orders together this weekend. Remember that for every purchase we will receive money for the school so why not ask grandparents if they would like some too?

Lost

  • Dhilan (Chestnut Class) lost his named trousers & polo shirt during swimming on Wednesday (and went home in his PE kit). Please check that your child has not taken them home in error.
  • Molly (Willow Class) has lost a small soft toy ‘red dog’ that has a green rubber ring attached.
Found
  • Small blue rucksack with pink elephant design containing nappy changing kit.

SPORT

The bad weather has determined to play its part in disrupting fixtures again this week. The poor Y5 netball teams must feel luck is not on their side as, for the second week in a row, their matches have been cancelled.

When the forecast is bad and it's tipping down then the chances are that sports clubs held outside after school cannot run. We would be grateful, if possible, you could pick up your child at 3.15pm. For those children not picked up, the member of staff running the club will take them to a classroom for indoor activites.

Many thanks to all of the parents who have sent in Aldi Sports stickers. We have reached 50, only 250 to go....but we may double up with Pewley who are also collecting. Please keep bringing them in!

Next week we will be welcoming the RGS Young Leaders who will be helping out at Monday touch rugby club. If your child hasn't tried touch rugby now is the time to join in as we will have lots of help from the Young Leaders running fun skills and drills games.

We have another busy week of HT sport coming up. The Y5 and Y6 girls are at Priors Field on Wednesday afternoon at an inter-schools XC and the Y5 and Y6 football teams are away to Boxgrove on Thursday.

On Sunday Nick and I will be at Whitgift in Croydon to cheer on our biathletes who will be running and swimming in the Whitgift Biathlon.

All clubs are running next week.

A reminder that the link is here for pre-ordering and payment should be made at the school reception (either in person or through an honesty box with a labelled envelope).

HTSC News

Hi Everyone

Here’s our update for this week for you:

Class reps
We still need reps for all the Year 5 classes and for 3C. Please contact helen@thomasday.co.uk if you are willing to to help. Responsibilities include: arranging social events for your class/year group, helping HTSC with finding volunteers for events, promoting our events and organising teacher present collections at Xmas and at the end of the school year. You will not be expected to remind parents about school trips etc. – all the info is on the website, newsletter/JTLYK and school will send out a ParentMail when necessary. If we could find 2 volunteers per class that would be ideal.

Bingo!
Our first event is Bingo night on 12th October in the school hall from 6pm - 8pm. It is a really fun evening for the whole family of all ages and is hosted by the brilliant Jes Moon. Ticket price includes a fish and chip supper from Seafare and are available to order now – forms went home in bookbags last week.

Easyfundraising
If you are unable to give your time to helping fundraise at school but would still like to show your support, you can do so simply through your online shopping. If you shop through this link to support HTSC Holy Trinity School Community Guildford, you will earn us money each time you shop and it can make a huge difference at the end of the year.

Dates for your diary:
Weds 9th October – deadline for Bingo ticket orders
Sat 12th October from 6pm – 8pm Bingo night!
Mon 14th October 8pm @ Rogues - Bonfire Night and Christmas Fair planning meeting (everyone welcome to help plan our next 2 events)
Fri 8th November – Bonfire Night
Fri 29th November from 6pm – Christmas Fair If you have any questions, please email helen@thomasday.co.uk and I’ll endeavour to get back to you as soon as I can.

Thank you again for all your support - have a happy weekend!
Kind regards, HTSC
