Infant 17/10/14

17 October 2014

Dear Parents,
I have just been revising the Home-School Agreement document with Emma Laporte who is one of our Parent Governors. I will hope to send out the revised document for you to see after half term. I like the document not because it is a binding legal contract, but because it is a series of values and beliefs to which we all sign up.

A big part of the agreement is that we do our best to work in partnership with each other. To that end I am asking you to spend a few minutes with your child filling in the One Page Profile which is available here or in hard copy from either of the school offices. At Pewley Down parents have already been asked to do this in hard copy form, but are also able to do it electronically if you have not yet completed the hard copy.

The form needs your child’s name and a photo. Then there are three questions to complete with your child:
1. What is important to me?
2. What do people like about me and what do I like about myself?
3. How best to support me?
When you have completed the form please send it to
hts@holytrinity.surrey.sch.uk or info@pewleydown.surrey.sch.uk. We hope that this information will really help us meet the needs of your child even more.

We hope you will enjoy this time of chatting these things through with your child; this will form part of our discussions with you in parents’ evenings after half term.
With best wishes, Richard

Half term
A reminder that school finishes for the half term holiday at 12.00 on Wednesday 22 October.
We start back again on Monday 3 November.
As we are drawing near to the end of a busy half term we would like to thank you again for your support and wish you a very happy half term break.

Fluffy Friday: All the children had a fantastic day enjoying our first Fluffy Friday of the year. Year R took part in a carousel of different activities meeting friends from the other class. Year 1 and 2 enjoyed activities ranging from science and making a room in a box to adventure run and basketball.

Retirement: After 25 years at Pewley Down, Brian Terry, our wonderful caretaker, has announced his retirement at the end of November. We will be presenting him with a gift from the school, but if you would also like to contribute please bring your donation to the school office where there will also be a card to sign.

Reminder to Year 2 parents of 6 year olds:
If you would like your Year 2 child to take place in the research project run by the University of Surrey, investigating colour perception, consent forms should be returned to the school office by Monday 20 October. Information about the project was sent out last week. The team from the University will be visiting Pewley Down on Tuesday 21 October.

PUPS Plus:
There are still limited spaces available for PUPS Plus over the half-term holiday. If you are interested, the form is available on the website under ‘Before and After School’ or email pups@pewleydown.surrey.sch.uk.

Operation Christmas Child:
We will be launching our annual Operation Christmas Child appeal after half term but if you would like to get ahead over the half term break we will be collecting the usual shoe boxes filled with small toys, school supplies, toiletries and other items such as gloves, hats and hair accessories. More information after half term.

FOPS

Family School Disco - 18 October 2014 - 5.45pm to 8pm: We can't wait to see you at the Family Disco on Saturday evening. Our special guest, Hannah from Boogie Pumps, will be starting the dancing at 6pm so be there if you want to join in with Hannah. There will be a bar serving beer, wine and soft drinks and a tuck shop too. We are also pleased to announce that there will be a "Photo Booth". Pewley mum and professional photographer, Ingrid Timmermann, will be there to take fun photos of your family if you wish. The cost of a photo session will be £5 on the night. You will then be able to view the photos on line and order them from her (£5 for the first photo).
PS If you forget to go to the cash point, we will be able to give you cash back on cheques on the night. The Photo Booth will also be accepting cheques.

Pewley Book Drive: FOPS has committed to spend £1,500 from funds raised last year to provide more reading books for the classroom and library books. The school would like to extend the reading range and add some exciting new books as some of them are showing their age. We would however like to raise an additional £500 to meet our £2,000 target. You will therefore be receiving a letter in your child's book bag asking you to consider making a donation specifically towards reading books. If you wish, a sticker will be put in one of the new books to recognise your donation. Please read the letter and consider making a small donation so that we can meet this target.

Northbrook Wrapping Paper
- Return before Half Term: Don't forget to order your Christmas wrapping paper from Northbrook by Wednesday 22 October. The wrapping paper is great value and always very popular. The school receives commission on every order. Please contact Cherrie Gluyas (cherrygluey@yahoo.com) if you have any questions.

Phil the Bag - Thursday 6 November:
Are you planning to clear out your cupboards at home over half term? We will be holding a Phil the Bag collection on Thursday 6 November. Please drop off any unwanted clothes, shoes, bags, belts, bedding and other textiles by the school car park at drop off on that morning. Donated items must be in wearable condition as they are mostly shipped to African countries where a wholesaler sorts them and sells them to market traders at affordable prices. The school receives money for every kilo donated. If you would like more information about what can be collected or where the donated clothing goes, please see http://www.philthebag.co.uk/faq.html.

Year R drinks: A reminder about Year R drinks at Rogues on 6 November from 8pm .

Christmas Fair - 7 December 2014:
We are interested in hearing from any parents or local businesses who would like to have a stall at the Fair or may be willing to donate a raffle prize. Please contact Emily (emilybourke@msn.com).

FOPS Meeting - 12 November 2014:
The next FOPS meeting will take place on 12 November 2014 at 8pm in the staff room. The main topic for discussion will be the Christmas Fair. All welcome!
