Junior 5/10/12

05 October 2012

Dear Parents,

It was harvest time at the infants today. There was a great display of tinned and driedfood as well as another large table of toiletries. Our collection at Pewley Down this year will all go to Surrey Youth Action. This is an organisation which works with young people who are homeless and seeks to give emergency shelter and then attempt to find them some more permanent housing and a job.

Our giving at Holy Trinity was for Guildford Womens Refuge and No5 which is a hostel for adult homeless who would otherwise be sleeping rough. We have been pleased to support these good causes practically to know that what we give makes a real difference. We to take time to speak with the children about the charities and the people they help.

Last year when we had an assembly about charities the juniors met a young man who had been associated with Holy Trinity for about ten years. It was a surprise and shock to us that he was now homeless.

We were all moved to hear how through a series of circumstances this had occured. We were pleased that he was now being helped into work and good living conditions by the charity.

We were reminded of Jesus’ words about the times we help the sick, the prisoners, the homeless and the refugees, ‘ In the giving to these people you are giving to me.’

We want to teach all our children to be thankful generous and giving. Harvest reminded us of just that.

With best wishes, Richard

Orchestra
There will be an extra orchestra practice on Tuesday next week (October 9th) for the 1812 Overture piece - please don't forget your instruments! We need some tubular bells for the performance - if anyone can help Judy with this she would be so very grateful as the 1812 without bells is going to sound very strange! Please email her on judyd@holytrinity.surrey.sch.uk

Big Birthday Bake off!
As part of the school’s birthday celebrations we are asking everyone to get baking and make a celebration cake for our open afternoon on Tuesday 16th October. Cakes need to be taken to the school hall on Tuesday morning with your name and class clearly labelled. There will be a prize for the best celebration cake in each year group. Prizes will be awarded during assembly on Wednesday 17th October. All cakes will be eaten during the afternoon of the 16th. Please remember, no nuts as we have many children and staff with allergies. Good luck and we look forward to seeing (and tasting) your entries! Alison and Ginnie
