• HTPD GREAT MASQUERADE BALL - TICKETS ON SALE FROM 8.40AM ON FRIDAY 2 FEB

HTPD 6/11/15

06 November 2015

Dear Parents,

It’s been a super week at both sites – the rest over the half term break has meant that all the children have come back refreshed and eager to learn. Thanks to our inspirational teachers, the children are being given some wonderful opportunities to ask questions, learn from exciting experiences and find out how the world around them works. The Great Fire of Pewley in Year 2, a Year 3 carousel of science activities (noisily demonstrating how sound is made by vibrations) and Year 5 being challenged to research a link between kitchen spices and Tudor exploration were all examples of great learning experiences that demonstrated a real zest for learning!

As we move into the period of parent consultations at both the juniors (next Tuesday and Thursday) and the infants (during the following week), we are looking forward to hearing your thoughts on the term so far. Please do ask your child’s teacher any questions you may have. In the new world of learning without national curriculum levels, the teachers are very well placed to explain your child’s progress so far as well as their next steps to take learning forward. Remember that each appointment is only for 10 minutes, so do make another appointment if necessary at a later date. With lessons as usual the next day, teachers really do need to keep to time so that the evening stays manageable. Thank you for your understanding.

At the time of writing, it’s looking a bit wet for our bonfire celebrations, but I’m sure it will still be a great night! It’s always a big fundraiser for the school, and a wonderful chance to come together as a whole school community. I’ll be on the gate to the field as usual – so do come and say hello!

With best wishes, Clare

Poppy Appeal
Poppies will be on sale at both school offices until next Tuesday 11 November.  Please support this very worthwhile cause.

Operation Christmas Child – shoebox appeal
This year we are again supporting Operation Christmas Child whose mission is to send filled shoe boxes to children in need overseas.  This year the boxes we collect will be sent to Syrian refugees.  If you have not already received a leaflet in your child’s book bag, you will do shortly.  The deadline for boxes to be received in school is Friday 13 November.  Boxes may be left at the school office at either the HT or PD site.  Thank you in advance for your kindness.

INFANT

You should have received a parent consultation form in your child’s book bag earlier this week.  Completed forms should be returned to the school office by Monday 9 November.

Year 2 trip to St Paul’s Cathedral, Monday 9 November
Don’t forget to bring a packed lunch and to be at school for 8.40 am to allow us to leave on time for our trip to St Paul’s on Monday.  We expect to arrive back at 4.00pm.
Thank you to all the Year 2 parents who very kindly offered to help with this trip.  We were very lucky to have received lots of offers of help so, unless you have already been contacted by a member of staff, we are afraid it will not be possible for you to join us this time.  Please accept our apologies for any disappointment this may cause.

Payments
A reminder to write your child’s name, class and reason for payment on the back of any cheque when making payments to the school (especially for PUPS or Breakfast Club).  If paying with cash it is helpful for us if you can send the exact amount in an envelope marked with child’s name, class and reason for payment.

Owen Sellwood has lost his Mandela sweatshirt (named).
Eliana Taylor has lost her large ping-pong style bat – last seen at the Year 2 trip to the beach.
