HTPD 20/11/15

20 November 2015

Dear Parents,

With the tragic events taking place in France last weekend, it was very moving to see how the children at both sites responded so sensitively. In both assemblies on Monday, we prayed for peace, for kindness and for anyone who was sad.  We reminded each other of our school values – imagining the journey in another’s footsteps, nurturing understanding and respecting all. I feel so fortunate to be part of such a loving community, where every individual is treasured and loved.

Meeting with you as parents helps that community to be even further strengthened. Thank you for taking the time to meet with your child’s teacher over the last two weeks, and please do keep in touch so that we can support your child’s learning. If, for any reason, you missed out on a parent consultation, please do get in touch and we can make arrangements.

It was just great to enjoy a cup of tea and some delicious cake with some of our Year 5 and Year 6 parents on Thursday afternoon, served admirably by some of the children. Thanks to Ginnie for arranging this lovely event and for providing such a wonderful way for us to be community together.

Another part of our community is Holy Trinity Church, with Robert Cotton as their rector also serving as our chair of governors. I met with HT church’s parish council earlier this week, and was thrilled to receive a generous donation from the congregation towards the work of the school. Ensuring that we build links with the wider community is so vital – it reminds the children of how they fit in and belong.

With best wishes
Clare

House Poetry, Tuesday 24 November
Our house poetry event is taking place on Tuesday next week.  This is a lovely, low key event which gives all the children at Pewley a chance to read, perform and share with their house mates.  If your child would like to choose a poem to read or recite to their house they will all have the chance to do so.  We would love lots of children to join in so, even if it is just a short rhyme, all poems will be very much appreciated.  The poems don't need to be learned - they can be read.

FOPS News

Thank you to everyone who came to Action Sunday and joined in our autumn clear-up and filled over forty bags of leaves!

Following on from the FOPS meeting, the following requests for expenditure by the school have been approved. The children’s downstairs toilet are planned for refurbishment with an application for funding from the Diocese, To qualify for this grant, 10% needs to be raised by the school, so FOPS has pledged to raise the £2500 required. In the meantime, to improve the boys toilets FOPS has agreed to pay for the repair of the extractor fan controller which is £400.00. The decking on the front playground amphitheatre needs to be replaced, so £500 has been allocated for resurfacing of this seating area. In the New Year staff have requested teaching resources for both maths and music, so £1000 has been allocated to each subject.

In addition to the above the school, with financial support from FOPS, is pursuing the possibility of rejuvenating the year 2 garden into a science and music area for the children to explore.

Key to all these plans is school fundraising and your support. The Christmas Fair is one of our main fundraisers and money generated from this event will go some way to achieving the above plans. So any help or support you can give in the preparations and on the day of the fair are greatly appreciated at this busy time of year.
