HTPD 13/11/15

13 November 2015

Dear Parents,

I’m so thrilled to share some exciting news with you – Heather Havermans gave birth to a lovely baby girl, Poppy Mae on Tuesday. Both mum and baby are really well! We’re really looking forward to meeting her. More baby news, Julia Grocott, our wonderful Year 4 teacher is also expecting! Of course it’ll be a while, but a summer baby is on the way!

As well as Heather’s news on Tuesday, Remembrance Day was marked at both infants and juniors by a two minutes’ silence. The children respectfully considered how the world is changed by war; they reflected on the role of peacemakers, and remembered those who have suffered. The boom of the cannon was heard all the way up the hill which, in itself, was memorable!

On Thursday next week (2.30pm in the Chapel), we are holding an afternoon tea – on this occasion we’ve invited all the parents of children in Y5 and Y6. We’re hoping it will give you another opportunity to feedback to us how the term has been so far for your family. Ginnie, Lucy and I will be there to chat. We’re looking forward to it and hopefully, it will be the first of several similar events.

Finally, can I thank you for your patience as we have resolved the difficulties with our new Parentmail system. We think that we’re now properly up and running, but do get in touch with either office if you are still experiencing problems.

Have a good weekend.

With best wishes
Clare

Christmas Child
Thank you to all those parents for your Christmas Child shoe boxes.  Your donations are amazing.  For those parents who are thinking of doing it, there is still time for you to put together a box, all for a worthwhile cause, and bring it along to Holy Trinity Reception.  We have another week or so before they are being collected.

Northbrook Wrapping
There is still time to put in an order!
The cut-off date has been extended until Friday 27th November, so there is still plenty of time to get your orders in either via the school or online. Any questions, please contact Cherrie Gluyas (cherrygluey@yahoo.com).

Healthy Snacks

If you give your child a snack for break, may we ask you please to give your child something healthy, maybe fruit or vegetables, a cereal bar perhaps, but not something that contains nuts?  Also, no chocolate bars, crisps or snacks with a high sugar content. Thank you.

Sport

We have had a fantastic couple of weeks of HTPD sport. The year 5 boys have enjoyed some competitive friendlies against local schools, whilst the year 6 boys are battling it out for a place in the County finals.

On Monday the Year 6 girls won the Guildford schools indoor netball tournament involving eight other local primary schools.

On Wednesday the Year 5 and Year 6 girls joined 15 other schools in the Prior’s Field annual cross country.  A special mention to Ayla Darcy for coming 1st and Hebe Poole for coming 3rd and in the U11 team event,  which included Meg Miller, Renee La-Touche, Katie Keiller and Imogen Ewer for coming 3rd.

Well done to Ayla Darcy, Hebe Poole, Lana Darcy, Mikey Naisby, Toby Grimshaw, Alex Dolling, Jonah Bircher and Mat Luther who all qualified for the British Biathlon Championship in Solihull on the 28th November and good luck to those athletes taking part.

We are very lucky at Holy Trinity to have so many sports clubs where the children can learn a new sport or practice and train in a sport they love.  We do have quite a few external sporting fixtures, especially for the year 5 and year 6’s.  Selection for fixtures is dependent on commitment as well as ability so please do encourage your child to keep coming to all our sports clubs to benefit from the opportunities they provide.

Finally, we have a new Twitter account @HTPDSport where we post all HTPD sports news as well as following lots of Guildford based sports clubs and secondary schools sports twitter feeds. Please follow us and keep up to date with all our news.
