Infant 14/11/14

14 November 2014

Dear Parents,

Twenty five years is a long time in the same job and is becoming very unusual in the current employment situation. This is what Brian Terry has completed at Pewley Down School. He is now finishing at the school as caretaker and moving with Penny, his wife to a house by the sea in Suffolk. It will be a great location for Brian who loves running and the outdoor life. Many of you will be grateful to Brian for his care and for running the football club for so many years. If you would like to join in the gift for him, please bring your contribution to the Pewley office. We are holding a leaving tea for him next Friday afternoon at 3.15pm and you are welcome to that too. I know he would be
really pleased to see parents of his footballers over the years. We will not be replacing Brian. Instead, Julie, our Site Manager will take on his responsibilities and we have an excellent company taking over the cleaning. The only small part of the job we have not fixed up is snow clearing; if anyone is able to offer to do this vital but very occasional task please contact the HT office or email Julie direct on julieb@holytrinity.surrey.sch.uk.

Also moving on is Hannah Jezeph, but if we are all very nice to her she may come back after her time in Australia. Hannah is an outstanding teacher and she will be much missed. She is being replaced by Patrick Davies. He was on the Surrey school centred teacher training programme last year and did his second teaching experience in year 3 with Ginnie. He comes to us from Gosden House School in Shalford. He is a musician and will bring many other talents to HTPD.

Your child’s safety is of paramount importance to us and two special ‘weeks’ next week will focus our minds on this. The weeks are ‘Anti Bullying’ and ‘Road Safety’. All classes from R to 6 will be focusing on these two particular campaigns. I hope you will be able to reinforce these messages at home too. The revised Anti-bullying and Behaviour policies are available on the website. On the road safety note please would you remind your children to cross with the teachers at the top of the driveway at Addison Road.

Thank you so much for your co-operation in these matters.
With best wishes, Richard

Parent Consultations, Tuesday 18 & Wednesday 19 November: The parent consultations next week are an important chance for you to talk to your child’s class teacher about how well they have settled in. We would encourage you please to keep to the 10 minute time slot, but do ask if you feel you need a longer appointment on another occasion. Please come to the library/office area on arrival where there will be a list showing where the consultations are being held. Patrick Davies will also be attending the consultation evenings so all parents in Walnut class will have a chance to meet him.

Teacher-led clubs: Owing to the parent consultations, teacher-led clubs will not be running next week commencing Monday 17 November.

MUFTI, Friday 21 November: Next Friday is collection day for the school fair and children may come to school in mufti (home clothes). It will be mufti /fair collection day at both sites. More details in the FOPS section.

Parking
Please remember to respect our neighbours when parking (especially those living very close to the school). Find a safe place to park and try and make sure your child exits the car on the pavement side. Also, please do not park outside the car park gates as some staff need to leave promptly at 3.00pm.

Christmas Fair - 7 December 2014 - 12pm to 2pm
Our Christmas Fair is approaching fast. It's always a fun start to the Christmas festivities, so please put the date in your diaries. We will have a Santa's Grotto, craft, seasonal games, hot food, mulled wine and mince pies and much more.

We really need your help with a few things to make it a success.

Donation Day - Friday 21 November - MUFTI day: You will be receiving a letter in your child's book bag today letting you know items we are collecting for stalls at the fair. This year we would be very grateful for donations of any of the following:
• Booty Bags (see "Help! What's a Booty Bag?" on the FOPS PTA section of the website
• Bottles
• Chocolate
• Second-hand soft toys
• Second-hand Books
Please bring any donations you are able to make to the School Playground on Friday 21 November. The children are allowed to come to school in mufti (home clothes) on this day.

WANTED: Father Christmas: The highlight of the fair for the children is undoubtedly a trip to Santa's Grotto. We try hard to ensure that this is a magical experience for the children. We are looking for two or three dads who would be prepared to put on the red suit and beard and be our Santa. (The santa suit and elf helpers are provided!) Please let Emily Bourke know if you would be able to do this (emilybourke@msn.com).

Stalls: Every year group has been allocated a few stalls to run at the Christmas Fair. Your class reps will be contacting you shortly to ask you to help for 30-45 minutes on a stall. There are almost as many timeslots to fill as there are children in the class so please volunteer. Many hands make light work!

If any enterprising parents or local businesses would like a stall at the Fair, please contact Emily Bourke.

Pewley Book Drive: Thank you for all your donations to the Pewley Book Drive. We have now met our target and have £2,000 to spend on new library books and reading books for the classrooms. The teachers want to ensure that this money is spent wisely and therefore they will be carefully selecting the books after Christmas. We will give you more details when the new books arrive in school early next year.

Cake Sale, Friday 21 November (Hazel Class) is cancelled. This will now happen on Friday 28 November.

Home School Link Worker group
There will be a group for parents or carers who find their children’s behaviour challenging. The group will run on Monday mornings on 17th, 24th November and the 1st December from 9-10:30am. Tea and coffee will be available beforehand in the staffroom. The group will be supported by me but the group will decide which direction we will go in. If you would like to join the group please contact me in person or by e-mail on lucyc@holytrinity.surrey.sch.uk. Lucy Cray, Home School Link Worker

Lost
Scarlett LeRoy ( Walnut Class) has misplaced her brand new cardigan – Keller – size large. The cardigan was last seen at PUPS but, unfortunately, it wasn’t named.
