• HTPD GREAT MASQUERADE BALL - TICKETS ON SALE FROM 8.40AM ON FRIDAY 2 FEB

Infant 9/11/12

09 November 2012

Dear Parents,

Several parents have spoken to me about the letter requesting funds for the school. I am really sorry that some of you were upset by the tone and content of the letter. We had based it on a letter sent out from one of the secondary schools and on reflection I can see that it wasn’t our style. I do understand that education is supposed to be free and that parents are already very generous. Please accept this apology. We have covered the cost of the basic chapel/hall through capital grants and savings. The extras, including links to the school, flooring and seating are highly desirable, but even without these we will be able to use the new building by February.

On a different subject our residential conference was very successful. This is always a time where we work together to ensure that we all share the same vision. This is the key to a united school, where everyone is playing their part. We specifically looked at the writing process and learnt and shared ways to enable our boys to become as successful writers as our girls. Another theme was the need to treat children as individuals who have personal learning styles and multiple intelligences. I am confident that as a result of this in-service children will be inspired to achieve at an even higher level.

With best wishes, Richard

MUFTI, Friday 16 November
Next Friday will be a mufti day (children come to school in their home clothes) in line with Holy Trinity who will be collecting donations for their Christmas Fair.  There is no need for children at Pewley to bring anything in.

We have had a few requests from children who would like to get involved in Blue Peter’s ‘Go Pyjamas’ appeal for Children in Need.  Although we are not doing this as a school, if children want to raise funds independently we are happy for them to come to school in pyjamas that day as well.

Operation Christmas Child
It’s a very busy time of year but please don’t forget the Samaritan’s Purse appeal where shoeboxes filled with small gifts are sent to children in need overseas.  Leaflets with further details went out before half term – ask the office if you need another copy.  The deadline for collection of shoeboxes is Monday 26 November. Last year we sent 70 boxes and are hoping to equal or better that this time.
