Infant 16/11/12

16 November 2012

 Dear Parents,

We are pleased to be a happy learning community at Holy Trinity Pewley Down. For two hundred years we have been a centre for Christian education in Central/South Guildford and now we are firmly established in the Holy Trinity Ward/Charlotteville area. We strive to be good partners in the community; we do this through providing first-class education as well as being part of the local community and church activity. Last Friday’s bonfire night celebration is a great example of school and community having fun together, as well as raising a lot of money for the school through our excellent parent organisations.

We also have various responsibilities to the area and are well aware that there are certain tensions of living near a school. There is the inevitable noise and bustle particularly at the start and end of the school day. Increased traffic and parking difficulties add to the problems. To this end, please consider parking further out and letting your children walk the last mile or so into school. Please be particularly thoughtful about parking at busy times. This is obviously worse during the building works.

Thank you so much for all that you do to make the school the warm and friendly place it is. Parents are universally positive and helpful. Thank you for your part in making this school community such a happy place to learn and work.

With best wishes, Richard

MUFTI on Friday 23 and Monday 26 November
Just a reminder that children should come to school in mufti (their own clothes) for Fluffy Friday next week and also on the following Monday when FOPS will be collecting donations for the Pewley Christmas Fair (see more details below).

House Football, Monday 26 November
We are looking forward to our next house event on the 26th when all children will be taking part in football in house teams within year groups.  Look out for some photos and results on the board in the hall.

Book Fair
If you haven’t visited the book fair yet, Monday 19th is the last chance to come along to the hall after school and have a browse.

Christmas Play Costumes
If anyone can help us with some very simple sewing for Christmas play costumes we would be very grateful.  Please contact either Sheena or Rosie in Year 2.

Northbrook Gift Wrap
If you ordered gift wrap this is now ready for collection from the school office.

Operation Christmas Child
Don’t forget that the deadline for bringing in filled shoeboxes for the Samaritan’s Purse appeal is Monday 26 November.

FOPS News

School Disco
We're looking forward to a great evening at the School Disco on Saturday. Doors open at 5.30pm and it will be possible to buy tickets on the door if you haven't already bought yours. (Family: £10, Adults: £4, Children £2, pre schoolers go free). Join us for a drink and a dance!  A few volunteers to stay behind to clear up at the end would be very helpful too!

Pewley Down 2013 Calendar
We had a very exciting photo shoot last Friday for the Pewley Down 2013 Calendar. The calendar will go on sale in a couple of weeks time.  Many thanks to Liz van Eykenhof who has worked so hard to produce such gorgeous pictures.

Another gorgeous picture was produced by Tabitha Hill-Price (Walnut), who is the winner of our front cover competition. Well done, Tabitha!

Christmas Fair
Coming home in book bags this weekend you'll find a letter about the Christmas Fair on Sunday 2 December and two books of raffle tickets for you to sell. We would be very grateful if donations of Jolly Jars, bottles, chocolate and good quality second hand toys and books could be brought into school on Monday 26 November. Children are invited to wear mufti on this day. We appreciate that it is a busy and expensive time of year so we are very grateful for your support.

Micro Scooters
If you are planning to purchase a new Micro Scooter for Christmas or accessories such as lights and bottle holders for an existing scooter, please consider doing so through the school.  FOPS will earn a 10% commission on all sales and the scooters will be delivered free of charge to school in time for Christmas.  Please contact suziturner@yahoo.co.uk for further information or browse the brochure on the link below / pick up an order form from Ruth.  Orders by 2 December.
