HTPD 3/5/19

03 May 2019

Dear Parents and Carers,

I had such a great email from a parent earlier this week and I wanted to share their idea with you all. They’d decided to see how much they could reduce their weekly rubbish by not using packaging in their children’s packed lunches. It had amazed them how much five days of foil, cling film and plastic wrappers contributed to their rubbish bin contents and they’re now challenging their family to manage without. Perhaps you’d like to join their quest! It would be fantastic to go litter-free as a school!

With our policy of just bringing healthy snacks to school our contribution to land-fill is small. Fruit and vegetables don’t need a plastic wrapper! Please do help us to reinforce this by reminding children that they shouldn’t be bringing any other snacks to school for breaktimes. Thank you so much.

It’s been good to see our summer term clubs get underway this week. There are so many different options to choose from! I’m extremely grateful to staff for offering to run these sessions in their own time and at no cost. Do take a look at what’s on offer this term – and maybe encourage your child to try something new (http://www.holytrinity.surrey.sch.uk/The-School/Parents/Clubs.aspx). It’s all part of how we encourage children to “Learn to Live”.

At the infants this week, we were joined by two delightful teachers from Ghana. They are involved in training new teachers in their home country and have been looking at how schools in the UK use child-led learning and play to stimulate children’s love of schooling. They each spent two days in Reception and Year 1 and have left Pewley full of great ideas. If you’d like to know more about the charity that brought them here, take a look at their website (http://sabre.education).

After only just getting back into the swing of the summer term, it seems strange to be wishing you a happy long weekend! I do hope though that you all enjoy a lovely time with your children – they’ve worked really hard this week. See you next Tuesday!

With best wishes, Clare

Thought of the week: It’s rubbish…doubt! Do you stand up for your beliefs?

Let me start by saying a big thank-you to those that made the FOPS meeting yesterday. We got lots of planning done and are ready for the new term ahead!

Match Funding
Do you or your partner work at a company that offers match funding? This is a scheme where companies will match money raised at a certain event/stall that you volunteer at. Most large companies offer this and if you are planning on volunteering for events like the SUMMER FAIR (6th July) we would love to hear from you! Please contact Kayleigh.ashraf@gmail.com or anaxreithsmith@gmail.com.

FOPS notice board
Please keep an eye on the FOPS notice board (next to the ramp downstairs) for any new events or news. The selling and service section is ready to go (cards are £1 for a month or free if the item is free can be found in office), so if you have something to sell let us know!

HTSC News

A big Thank You to everyone who has brought in donations for Phil The Bag. They collected the bags today and will let us know the total soon.

Also a big thank you for all your Smartie tubes. I’m sure Clare will be updating the iPads shortly.

Fun Run – is happening in a few weeks, so start asking people to sponsor you and your children’s efforts - grandparents, aunts, uncles, neighbours, favourite barista. Anyone you think will be happy to support your efforts. The event starts at 12:30 with the first race at 1pm.Full details in the runners packs coming out the week before.

Summer Fair - there is a meeting on Friday 10th in the staff room after drop off to talk about what stalls to have and we would love some fresh new ideas, so if you can think of anything pop along and let us know. There will be tea and coffee.

Sainsbury’s scheme - we have a few more people signed up. If you have thought about signing up, now is a great time to do so. Just as a reminder you pay a monthly direct debit to school. We credit that amount each month to a gift card and you spend that in store (we do all the rest and earn 4% of what you pay from Sainsbury’s!)  Free cash what’s not to like?

Hope you all have a lovely (if a bit chilly long weekend!)
