HTPD 5/5/17

05 May 2017

Dear Parents,

We had such a good time across both sites this week with our “Stay and Play” events. We enjoyed talking to you about how we want to improve playtimes and I hope that your children have been inspired by some of the new ideas. Watching even our oldest Year 6 children play with some recycled cardboard boxes, I’ve been struck again about the importance of childhood. Using imagination, learning to collaborate, taking safe risks, it’s amazing what fun a cardboard box can bring. With Year 6 taking their SATS next week, it’s good to provide opportunities like this to help them stay relaxed! We’re very proud of all the children as they tackle the challenge ahead and hope that they actually enjoy it!

You should receive a parentmail today with a link to this year’s parent survey. If you have more than one child in school, please feel free to complete it more than once. We’re so keen to provide an opportunity for you to share any concerns you have, and it also helps to identify ways that we can improve. The survey is completely anonymous, but please do get in touch if it raises any issues for you that you would rather discuss face to face. We do value our parent partnership and love to receive feedback from you.
We have also carried out a similar survey with the children and we look forward to hearing what they have to say.

Next week brings us to the start of our school journeys, with Year 5 travelling to Brenscombe Farm in Dorset for a 4 day residential visit. This trip has been such a highlight for so many generations of children. My own son looks back fondly on overcoming the challenge of abseiling down Dancing Ledge.

Let’s hope the sun shines on this year’s intrepid explorers!

With best wishes
Clare

SAINSBURYS GIFT CARD SCHEME - VACANCIES - URGENT HELP NEEDED!
We have two immediate vacancies to run the Sainsbury’s gift card scheme. One vacancy is for the scheme administrator - a role which involves approximately 1-1.5 hours per month to maintain the scheme with a few extra hours to finalise accounts at the end of the year. The other vacancy is for a person to manage the scheme accounts (including checking payments made on a monthly basis).

Please contact Carrie Witts (carriewitts@gmail.com) or Ros Vickerman (rosalindvickerman@yahoo.com) if you are interested in taking on either of these roles.

The Sainsbury’s scheme raises around £2,000 for HTSC each year and is a HUGE fundraiser for the school, so please help if you can – the scheme will have to close if we can’t find anyone to take it on.

MATCH FUNDING – CAN YOU HELP?
Are you a parent who works for a company? We are looking for parents who are willing to ask their employers about Match Funding schemes to help boost our fundraising at our Summer events. With the HTPD Fun Run & The Summer Fair fast approaching it’s a great opportunity to maximize our school fundraising. If you can help, or require more information please contact Carrie or Ros. carriewitts@gmail.com, rosalindvickerman@yahoo.com

HTSC SPONSOR

Please don’t forget Cavender Sales & Lettings in Guildford (our major sponsor now for the third year running) will donate £250 to the school if you decide to rent your property through them or if you sell a property through them, they will donate £500. So if you are thinking about either, please get in contact with them www.cavenders.co.uk.

Surrey County Council Foster Care Fortnight 8-21 May 2017:
The number of children in care in Surrey has increased slightly recently, and hovers around 900 children. About 40% are placed outside Surrey because we haven’t got enough foster carers. We are looking for foster carers for children of all ages (birth to 18), for supported lodgings carers for young people aged 16-21, and Short Breaks carers for children with disabilities. Whether you are married or single, male or female, straight or gay, whatever your cultural heritage, do or don’t have your own children, rent or own your home, work or don’t work, we would love to hear from you. You do need to have a spare room, or if you want to become a Short Breaks carer, be able to make a room available when the child stays with you. For more information on local fostering events please see:
