HTPD 6/5/16

06 May 2016

Dear Parents,

It was wonderful last weekend to attend a service at Holy Trinity Church to celebrate the 20th Anniversary of Robert Cotton’s ministry as rector there. To recognise all that he has given to the local community and to hear memories of the past two decades was truly inspirational. He serves the school so well as our Chair of Governors and is extremely dedicated to ensuring local children hear the good news of God’s love. It was a superb occasion.

Robert has also lead assemblies at both sites this week, reminding the children that it’s ok to make mistakes and telling them how David Beckham honed his skills as a footballer by not giving up. It’s something we talk to the children about often – in a world of targets, exams, striving for success, and the pressure to excel, it’s good to remember that we all need to be kind to ourselves when it doesn’t quite go according to plan!

With the entire country’s 11 year olds about to embark on their week of SATs tests, I’m so delighted to see how well prepared and relaxed our Year 6 children seem. Do make sure they get plenty of sleep this weekend – it is always a week of hard work and effort and I’m sure they’ll want to do their best. But remind them that their worth is far more than what can be measured in a test.

At the juniors, we’re looking forward to the upcoming school residential visits, with Year 5 about to head off to Dorset next week for their trip to Brenscombe Farm. A small group of children in Year 6 will then be travelling to our partner school in Spain, before the other trips which take place after the half term holiday. All of these school journeys provide the children with amazing opportunities to learn about themselves as well as being memorable, fun times. Please do check with the finance office to make sure all bills are paid. Thank you.

Finally, please do remember with the warmer weather upon us to send your child into school wearing a named hat and sun cream and with a water bottle. Have a great weekend!

With best wishes
Clare
