Junior 15/5/15

15 May 2015

Dear Parents,

We really do choose great venues for our school residential journeys. This week I visited Year 5 at Brenscombe Farm. We walked about 1km up from the centre and were right on top of the downs with views to Bournemouth in one direction, Swanage in another and Corfe Castle just ahead of us nestled in the valley.

I do think this is a great strength of the school and hope your children will be able to take part in such exciting visits in the future. I was thrilled to climb three hard parts of the Dancing Ledge cliffs and Clare managed to get to the top platform of the high ropes course – so you can see that it was all about getting on together and joining in.

At both schools we are looking at the ups and downs in the life of St Paul and linking that with recycling and caring for our environment. We took our main theme this week as being cheerful in adversity as Paul and Silas demonstrated in prison in Philippi. The children at Swanage certainly showed this in great measure when the heavens opened yesterday after two days of beautiful weather.

Most of you will know that for the last ten years we have had great European partners and colleagues. Next week we are taking a group of twelve children and three staff to Spain. This will be a good opportunity to say goodbye to them.

With best wishes, Richard

The school will be closed during the week commencing 25 May for Half Term. School resumes on Monday 1 June at 8.40am.

Before & After School
Please ensure that you pick your children up on time! Clubs Plus finishes at 6pm. May we also please remind you that if your children are dropped at school before 8.30am that they need to attend Breakfast Club.

PUPS+
Unfortunately, due to a lack of demand, we are not running PUPS+ during May half term. We will be running in the summer holidays from the 22nd July until the 14th August provided that we have sufficient bookings. To be viable, we need to have at least 10 children each day. The forms will be available on the website from Monday next week, but it would be great if we could have an early indication if you are interested. Please email Sam on pups@pewleydown.surrey.sch.uk.

HTPD Summer Ball – Saturday 6 June 7pm – 1am

The HTPD Glitter Ball is fast approaching and we are hoping to have a fabulous auction at the Ball and if it is to be as successful as the last auction in 2014, we NEED YOUR HELP!

Are you able to donate a prize for the auction or are you a local business or know of a local business that might be able to help support the Ball if so please contact Carrie Witts, carriewitts@gmail.com.
Thank you for your support of what promises to be a wonderful event.

Further Tickets on sale now
As expected we have had a huge response so it’s looking like it’s going to be another fantastic evening. Due to the larger venue & higher allocation of numbers, we still have tickets available, so if you are thinking of joining us, it’s not too late to get your ticket forms in to either HT or PD for the attention of Carrie Witts.

Please follow this link to the Ticket order form for the HTPD Summer Glitter Ball to be printed off and completed (paper copies available in Reception @ HT @ Pewley). Those who have already sent their forms in tickets will be sent home with children in 2 weeks time.

Summer Fair Friday 12th June 6-8pm
Our Summer Fair planning is well under way and we are going with a CIRCUS theme this year!

The Summer fair is a major fundraiser and we are looking for prizes. If you are able to provide a prize or contribute towards the main prize or know of any businesses that may be able to donate something please do let us know at caroline@swifts.me.uk.

As usual we plan to have lots of external stalls if you know of someone who would like to have a stall at the fair or you would like a stall yourself please contact Jo Burne, joburne@yahoo.co.uk for details.

HT @ Home - extended
Thank you so much for all your enthusiasm for HT @ Home already! Many of us socialise with people we've met via this school, with the friends we make in the class room and at the school gate. In recognition of this, HTSC are encouraging us to arrange lots of socials (which we do anyway). The difference is that, under the HT @ Home umbrella, we can now turn these into mini HT fundraisers by asking guests to make a donation to school via the new online page.

Some lovely events are bubbling away in support of our efforts to raise £5,000 for an overhaul of student computers at HT. To reach our target, it would be wonderful to see more HT@Home events in the coming weeks and months. Please think about how you might be able to raise a little cash for this important venture - could you host a Pimms evening for your HT friends, or a dinner party, or a girl's pamper night? If you have any queries, or simply wish to chat through an idea, please contact nataliesavage@me.com.

Please keep checking our designated online fundraising page to see how our fundraising efforts are going against target. Our children might be interested to see the page too, for every penny raised will go to improving computers at school mydonate.bt.com/events/htathome/208773
