Infant 8/5/15

08 May 2015

Dear Parents,

Yesterday’s election nationally has proved a great surprise to everyone and confounded the pollsters. This was somewhat different from the HTPD election where the Green Party quickly gained a large number of supporters and worked hard to claim a clear victory. Many congratulations to Michael Kerr and his team. They and the other three candidates Abigail, Freya and Eliza did extremely well passionately concentrating on the important issues and speaking well to the Holy Trinity children and Year 2 at Pewley Down. Perhaps it was the green policy of scrapping SATS and OFSTED that swung it for them in the end.

You’ll be interested to know that my pilgrimage walk went well last weekend. The group started in Winchester Cathedral and walked to Farnham stopping for meals and sleeping in churches along the way. I suppose it would take about half an hour to drive from Winchester to Farnham, but think what you miss on the way if you zoom through at 75 miles an hour; the village shop in Ropley where they give their customers coffee, the crosses carved on the pillars of Bentley Church by fourteenth century pilgrims, the blaze of bluebells, wood anemones, cow parsley and yellow archangel in the woods around Upper Froyle, all of these are precious glimpses of Heaven in the moment which are only seen when we slow down and look and listen. I recommend pilgrimages to you all – Santiago de Compostela – here we come!

Three of our staff are moving on at the end of the academic year. Sheila is being promoted to a teaching role at Longacre School in Shamley Green, Cheryl, currently teaching in year 5, is relocating to London and has a job at the prestigious Belleville School in Roehampton and Jess is moving to Glasgow and will find a job once she is established there. Yesterday we appointed their three replacements: Jo Marsden – Jo is a parent and worked at PD and worked for us from time to time – she has worked over the years mainly in junior classes. Tom Everard and James Wyatt are both in their seventh year of teaching and working currently in year 6. Tom is coming to us from Pirbright School and James is working in Stratford, East London.

We wish our leaving staff all the very best and look forward to welcoming the new teachers.

With best wishes, Richard
