Dear Parents & Carers

The giving towards our new pitch has continued apace this week – our target is getting closer and soon we’ll be able to secure a company to do the work over the summer break. I spoke to Mary, our passionately sporty Year 6 teacher and national hockey expert about her memories of the pitch over the last twenty years. She listed all the children that started off their hockey career at her after school hockey club and have since gone on to play county hockey or even for England! It’s quite a legacy! One way to thank her for her years of hockey coaching is to top up the pitch fund - just think it might be your child who ends up playing in tomorrow’s squad! Do remember to visit the website and take a look at the inspiring sporty comments.

The governors and school leaders really enjoy consulting with both our pupils and their parents to ensure that HTPD can be the best school that it can be. Many of you email with helpful feedback and comments – thank you. Our school council also provide excellent information about how the children feel about life at school. I wonder if I can ask you to complete this quick parent questionnaire so that we can analyse how we’re doing on a range of school issues from your perspective. In particular this year, we’re keen to find out your views about our relationship and sex education curriculum in response to newly published government guidelines. We have written a draft policy and curriculum plan (Appendix 1) that you can access here and on the website. The survey will be open up until the end of term. Thank you so much for taking the time to give us really valuable feedback.

Finally, I was upset this week to receive calls from some of our neighbours about parking at drop off and pick up. Please can I remind you to park respectfully, not blocking entrance ways or on the yellow lines. Unfortunately, on one occasion a bus wasn’t able to drive around the Addison Road bend because cars were parked and unattended on the double yellow lines, on another occasion a child was nearly run down because a car was parked on the zigzags, and an Addison Court resident sadly missed a hospital appointment because the ambulance couldn’t access the driveway. We talk to the children about “imagining the journey in another’s footsteps” – let’s make sure that they see adults living out our values and not just speaking about them. It’s always so inspiring to see other people being kind – it motivates all of us to make kind choices.

Of course, be assured that I’ll let you know if I receive any advice or information about our current situation regarding coronavirus. In the meantime, stay well everyone.

With Best wishes, Clare

Thought of the week: “I will be with you always,” Hebrews 13 v5. How can you be a perfect pal?.

HTSC News

Hi Everyone,

Crowdfunding for Pitch 2020
Thank you for the huge amount of support you have shown for our Crowdfunding campaign (special thanks to Sue Williams (Abby’s mum 6S) for putting it together for us). So far this week we have over doubled the first week’s donations and have raised £6,685 which is just incredible! If we can get to the £10K in the next 2 weeks, Clare will be able to book in the work to take place in the summer. If you would like to read more about the pitch and donate you can do so here. Please feel free to share with family members, friends or any ex-parents that you think may like to support the school. https://www.crowdfunder.co.uk/htpitch2020

Quiz Night – Sat 28th March
Tickets are £12.50 per person – please drop in exact cash or cheque payable to HTSC to the school office in an envelope with your email address/number of tickets by Friday 20th March. There will be a fully stocked bar and a delicious curry will be provided by Raj Doot in Burpham. We hope the new date is more popular and we can give the teacher team some serious competition!

HTPD Fun Run – 3rd May 2020 @ Sutherland Memorial Park. Please see below message from the Fun Run Team

Applications for the 2020 HTPD fun run on Sunday May 3rd at Sutherland Memorial Park, Burpham, Guildford are now open!

Last year 250 children and adults took part, with many more cheering on. Families made the most of a lovely day, relaxing on picnic blankets and playing games, with the PTA selling food and drinks, and we raised c£3,000 for the school. This year the focus is on raising money for the new multi-use games area pitch, so we really hope you can make the event to raise as much money as possible. All the money you contribute will go to the pitch fund, so it is a huge help to the school.

Event times are:
1.00pm - Adults 1km to 5km run (do as many laps as you want this year!!)
2.00pm - Pewley Down 1k run
2.30pm - Holy Trinity 2k run
2:45pm - Toddler Dash
To register please complete the online application form. To help reduce the admin requirements for the team and to use less paper we request you complete the online form. If you do not have access to a computer, a paper application form can be collected from the school reception.

Second Hand Uniform
If you have any logo uniform, summer dresses, shorts etc. in age 8+ that you no longer need, please contact Simone Childlow (Maisie Year 3, Finn Year 5) via email simonechidlow@googlemail.com who is collecting it and storing it on our behalf for a uniform sale after Easter (please do not bring into school - we have no room to store it on site).

Matched Funding
If your company has a matched funding scheme for giving your time to support a charity, please do get in touch. We can provide our charity number and letters of proof of volunteering and funds raised for a particular event or stall – each scheme is different so please email me if you think your company can match any of our fundraising this year to reach our fundraising target.
