• Have a SUPER Summer, see you in September!

HTPD 29/3/19

29 March 2019

Dear Parents and Carers,

Yesterday, our Year 6 children visited Wintershall, a beautiful park just outside of Guildford where we walked together along a path that helps visitors to reflect on the events of the Easter story. The painful journey of Jesus to the cross, the grave and then the miracle of resurrection is depicted in several moving sculptures as the path leads uphill to a wonderful open view at the summit. I was so impressed by all of the children’s thoughts and, as we emerged into the spring sunshine, we experienced the hopefulness of love conquering all! It started off our Easter period so well – and next week we anticipate a wonderful time together at our Easter service on Wednesday morning (please let your child’s classteacher know if you are available to help walk the children to and from Holy Trinity Church at 9.15am). Before that, on Tuesday, we’ll have our annual Easter pause day which gives children across the school chance to hear the Easter story. We’re delighted that we’ll be joined on that day by people from several of the town’s churches. It’s so good to have time to ponder on what Easter means for us today.

I’m very pleased to be able to share with you the results of this year’s parent survey. As well as the recent questionnaire, which many of you completed before the half term break, I’ve also summarised the results of the survey completed at the junior school for our Ofsted inspection in December. Taken together, the results have been so encouraging for staff to see the impact of their efforts. Thank you for your responses; please do let me know if you do have any feedback at any time. We are always keen to work in partnership with you to be the best that we can be!

I was sad this week to hear from a local resident that they had been disturbed by children on their walk home. It appears that some children have been knocking on their front door and windows. Can I ask that you speak to your children about being kind and respectful to our neighbours; I have also mentioned it in assembly at the juniors.

Finally, thank you to everyone who contributed to our library crowd-funding scheme. Geraldine has plenty of brilliant ideas about how to spend the money, which totalled over £3000! She’ll keep you updated with what she purchases. The raffle will be drawn next week and the winners notified. Thank you so much for your ongoing support of children’s learning to read! It’s great to be part of such a vibrant reading community!

With best wishes, Clare

BAKE ‘N’ STROLL AROUND THE WORLD
A HUGE thank-you to all the wonderful families who joined us last Sunday for the Bake & Stroll! We had fabulous weather and even better cooking entries.

Congratulations to all the winners on the day:

  • Pewley Scrumptious Snacks – Eleanor, Aidan, Phoebe and Darcy
  • HT Kids’ Tasty Treats – Amber and William
  • Mums’ and Dads’ winners – Tulsi, Kayleigh, Bruno and Paul.

It was a fabulous day out which would not have been possible without the tireless help of the FOPS committee, so a massive thank-you to those who turned up early and stayed late to put on an amazing day for the HTPD families.

Brand New recycling scheme
Please remember to keep collecting your used printer cartridges for our new recycling scheme. We are partnering with a scheme called ‘Empties Please’. It is a simple green way to make money for the school and save the environment. Collect your ink cartridges from home, work, friends etc and fill your green bag. When the bag is full return it to the school and we will put them in the recycling bin (Please check their website for compatibility list).

When our bin is full the company will collect it and pay us a cash amount for each of the printer cartridges. We can also raise ‘Green Points’ for every £1 raised, which we can use to buy eco-friendly items for the school.

Year 2 Reminder
Log-in details for the Y2 leavers book have gone home in book bags or can be found on the FOPS noticeboard. Please use these to create a profile for your child as soon as you can. Ana and Kayleigh can then get on with editing and putting it together in time for printing deadline which is fast approaching. Please contact one of them if you are unsure of what to do.

Phil the Bag
Phil the bag returns on the 3rd of May so look out for more information closer to the time and start collecting your unwanted textiles!

Reminder: The Summer Fair has been moved to Saturday 6 July so please pop this date in your diaries!

EASYFUNDRAISING
Thank-you to those signing up for this! Just remember to click through the website before you make a purchase and continue earning free money for the school. https://www.easyfundraising.org.uk/

HTSC News

Can we just reiterate Clare’s huge thank you for the library crowd funder, what a fabulous result! Big hand to Sue W who organised all of this and to Cavenders who donated the prizes.

The children will have come home with a tube of Smarties (or equivalent) today; it is Friday after all! These are to be eaten at your discretion (leisure) and then if you can fill the tube up with 20ps (or indeed any money) and send them back to school after Easter it will all go towards helping replace the iPads which are an essential tool for learning in school. Thank you.

Phil The Bag is just after Easter so if you’re having a sort out during the holidays please put aside anything that could go towards Phil!  We get paid on the weight of our donations. All to be dropped at school week commencing 29 April for collection on 3 May.

Looking ahead to the Summer Fair; if you are dividing anything in the garden or sowing seeds this Easter please would you consider putting up a few things for the plant stall. So lovely to share things around and think of all those flowers blooming all over Guildford

Enjoy the sunshine, perhaps some Fun Run training. Still time to sign up! Details here
