HTPD 15/3/18

15 March 2019

Dear Parents and Carers,

We thought this week about the miracle of Jesus walking on water. I love how in the story, Peter sees Jesus coming towards the boat and is then desperate to recklessly climb out onto the water too! All goes well all the time he has his eyes fixed on Jesus, but then he looks down, notices the wind and waves and starts to sink. It’s such a great metaphor for all of us – when we focus on someone who we can trust and who cares for us deeply, we can achieve the impossible! But if we focus on the problem, doubts crowd in, we panic…and start to drown.

Parents evenings provide a great opportunity for us to tell the children what they’ve achieved and the hurdles they’ve overcome. Over the last couple of weeks at both the infants and the juniors, it was lovely to overhear children being praised by the people that they love. Even if they didn’t join you for the appointment, I know you’ll have encouraged them by talking about all the things that they’ve done to make you proud.

Red Nose Day today has been a fun occasion – and it was certainly very colourful. Thank you for your generous donations. We’ll let you know how much the school has raised as soon as it’s all counted! We have explained to the children how the money is used in lots of different ways to look after children all over the world who don’t have things quite as easy as us. I hope they feel that they’ve made a difference.

Next week, we’ll be raising awareness of another important cause. Millie and Ben, two children at the juniors, are going to speak in assembly about Downs’ Syndrome – many of you know their brother, Josh. They’ll be asking children to come to school on Thursday next week (World Down Syndrome Awareness Day) with odd socks on (and to bring in a donation to support the local Downs’ Syndrome charity – Stepping Stones!).

Finally, the governors would be really keen to hear from any parent with experience in IT networks, managing IT security and data. We are so fortunate to have fantastic ICT support at HTPD; it would be helpful to be able to audit our provision in an informed way so if you are an expert and you have some time available to help the school, please do get in touch with me.

With best wishes, Clare

POSTPONED - Festival of Fun for young carers at Clandon Park, Sunday 7 April
Unfortunately due to circumstances beyond our control we have had to postpone the young carers’ event. We are currently looking at new dates and will be in touch once we have a new date.
Guildford Borough Council.

‘Semi- Toned’ Acappella Group
The acappella group Semi-Toned are delighted to be bringing their UK tour show to the Electric Theatre in Guildford on the 14th of April!

Acappella, for those who don’t know/haven’t seen the Pitch Perfect films, is a nine man group who perform music entirely constructed from voices. Even the drums are made by a beatboxer. It is performed with full choreography and is quite a spectacle. With music from the 60’s right up to the present day, there is bound to be something you like in the show.

The lead is from Guildford and is proud to be bringing the show to their home town. They first started singing when they were a pupil at Holy Trinity and since then singing has become a central part of their life. Semi-Toned have performed on TV, sold out at the Edinburgh Festival and performed in venues across America.

They would love to share their love of singing and performance to the people of the school that started it all – there are a few tickets left so come and join them!
