HTPD 1/3/19

01 March 2019

Dear Parents and Carers,

We’ve had such a fantastic week in school learning about our school values! The sunny weather certainly helped, but I do think that spending time in Houses considering our school values meant that everyone had a good time! It’s been wonderful to hear playground and lunch queue conversations focused on respect, empathy, kindness and living well together. And especially lovely to hear children exclaiming, “That’s heaven in the moment!” I hope you’ve enjoyed finding out about all of the different learning that’s been going on each day. I’m also sure that the children have benefited in ways that are hard to measure - working outside of your usual class group across the age range, meeting other staff and pondering difficult questions. It was also excellent to share the week with twelve Spanish children and their two teachers visiting from our partner school in Aguilar – huge thanks to the parents who hosted our international visitors. It was a very successful trip!

You may have noticed some wonderful changes to the school grounds at both sites. Being a church school gave us access to some funds from Guildford Diocese. We’re so grateful for this source of income which had to be spent improving our school’s capacity to teach children about being healthy. It’s going to help us live out our values even more fully. At the infants the new playground markings are really superb and the work around the back of the school has extended the use of the top of the bank and the music garden. Meanwhile at the juniors, the adventure trail has been given a new lease of life, and two wooden framed tepees will extend our creative play opportunities enormously. We really are so fortunate in this time of shrinking school budgets to have ways to generate income to improve our school.

I’ve enjoyed reading your comments about the benefits of HTPD being a church school – if you haven’t yet had time to complete our online parent survey it will be open for just one more weekend. Just follow this
link. All your comments are really welcome – it will be good to hear about your views on our values-based approach to character education.

Next week at the juniors, and the week after at the infants, we have our parent/teacher consultation evenings. Do check your child’s bag for a letter if you haven’t yet booked an appointment, or email your child’s class teacher. It is so important at this mid-year point to join in a conversation about your child’s progress. As well as you finding out how best to support the next steps in their learning, you’ll be able to hear about what’s been going well. It’s always lovely to see children basking in their parents’ affirmation and pride as their teacher comments on something that they have achieved in recent weeks. Please do use the ten minute chat to update your child’s teacher if there is anything that might help in understanding your child’s needs even more effectively. And if you feel a longer conversation is necessary, please ask; we really do try to keep to time so that later appointments don’t suffer. I look forward to catching up with you all around school in the coming days.

With best wishes,

Clare

Year 6 Fundraising Get Together - next Wednesday 6th March
We are having a meeting and drink next Wednesday, 6th March at 8pm at The March Hare (2-4 South Hill, GU1 3SY).  All Year 6 parents and carers are welcome to come along, have a drink and find out what's being planned and how they can get involved.  Hope to see you there!

Quiz Night:
Good luck to everyone taking part in the quiz and a big thank you to Claire T and Steph for organising.  I am sure it will be a fun (if slightly competitive!) night.

Sainsburys Scheme
A quick question - do you shop in Sainsburys?  Or could you shop in Sainsburys once a month/quarter/year?  Holy Trinity is one of the lucky schools to belong to the Sainsburys Scheme.

Currently there are only 19 active members and it makes us £100 a month. IMAGINE what we could raise if we all signed up.

We will send out a flyer in book bags in the next week or two, but basically you are issued with a card, it acts like a gift card that you top up with a monthly standing order.  That standing order could be £10 or £200 or any amount you want.  It gets credited to your account and you use your card in store. The brilliant thing is we get 4% of every pound you put on.

Y3 Cake Sale is next Friday

Lastly, we have an exciting fundraiser raffle starting next week which is specifically raising money for the library. Cavenders has very generously donated a Kindle Paperwhite as first prize and Waterstone vouchers as runners up prizes.
