HTPD 3/3/17

03 March 2017

Dear Parents,

I know that so many of the children enjoyed celebrating Pancake Day on Tuesday – I was fascinated to discover which were the most loved fillings; while lemon and sugar seems to remain a top favourite, there were certainly some very creative chefs in our school community, with families cooking up some wonderful pancake recipes! Their descriptions made my mouth water! I really enjoy our different festivals which mark out the passing of the seasons – I think children too find comfort in the familiar pattern which they love to remember from previous years. Whatever our particular family traditions, we all love to celebrate!

I was surprised that so many children didn’t know that Pancake Day ushers us into the period in the Christian calendar known as Lent. At the juniors we marked the start of the forty days of Lent with an assembly on Ash Wednesday where we reflected on what this season is for. I’m certain that it’s more than just choosing something to go without. One organisation which seems to help provide a deeper focus is “40 Acts” where each day throughout this season, Christians are encouraged to do something kind and make a difference. Some teachers are using this idea in their classes and if you’d like to join in at home, here’s a link to some ideas (
www.40acts.org.uk).

With our assembly theme this week being “Love is…not selfish”, it’s been encouraging to see how keen the children are to think of others before themselves. Keeping the school tidy, helping someone else find a lost sweatshirt, making sure we don’t distract others from learning, and offering to help whenever we can, are all making the school a more selfless place. Perhaps you could chat with your child about what they are doing to make a difference.

With best wishes
Clare

You should now have received your appointment time for the parent consultations next week. Walnut class appointments may be subject to change as Patrick and his wife are expecting a baby imminently. We would encourage you to keep to the 10 minute time slot, but please do ask if you feel you need a longer appointment on another occasion. Please come to the library/office area on arrival where there will be a list showing where the consultations are being held.

Teacher-led clubs
There will be no teacher-led clubs next week owing to the parent consultations. Andy’s clubs - Multi Sports on Tuesday and Ball Games on Wednesday- will continue to run.

A reminder that Year R and Year 2 need to have their PE kits in school all the time. (Year 1 wear PE kit to school on their PE day.)

Surrey Youth Games
Registration is now open for the 2017 Specsavers Surrey Youth Games. The SYG is an annual event that takes place over 2 days at Surrey Sports Park, Guildford. Up to 2000 young people from 11 boroughs and districts across Surrey come together to compete, which, for some, is their first experience of competitive sport.

Local sports clubs in Guildford provide FREE training sessions during the lead up to the competition.
SYG is open to 7 - 16 year olds who live or go to school in Surrey.

This year, two Year 6 children who were involved in the Surrey Youth Games in 2016, have been chosen by Active Surrey as Young Ambassadors for the competition. Next week they will give a talk in Assembly about their experience and give more information about the different sports on offer.

They will also hand out leaflets so please look out for this coming home in your child's school bag. To register your child go to: www.activesurrey.com/SYG From this page you will be directed to your borough and then you will see the different sports on offer in your area.

The SYG is an amazing event and a brilliant way to try a new sport and get 6 weeks of training completely free. We encourage all the children to have a look and see if anything interests them. The Team Guildford poster displayed at Reception and on the Sports Notice Board has no fewer than 7 ex-Holy Trinity pupils from last year!

LOST:
Ethan Simoes 3A - has mislaid several articles of PE kit during this term. If you know where any of this kit might be, please let the office know. Thank you.
Honey Rowlands 3A – she lost her named lunch bag on Tuesday after lunch. She left it in one of the flower bed areas next to the bike and scooters park but could not find it at 3.15pm. It is a turquoise bag with purple flowers and there is a green ‘Sistenma’ sandwich box and matching drink bottle. Many thanks.

This is YOUR chance to make the book as characterful and special as you would like!

Check out the FOPS webpage and find out more about upcoming events and exciting new plans for improving the rear outside areas at Pewley. The minutes from our last FOPS meeting are now also available  www.holytrinity.surrey.sch.uk/The-School/Parents/PTA/Infant

HTPD Summer Party – Sat 17th June 7-12pm
Plans for the joint Summer Party at Weybourne House are now well under way! Once again it will be a relaxed, fun filled evening with good food, dancing and a well-stocked bar at this local riverside location. For extra fun and funds we will, again, be holding a SILENT AUCTION but we need a team of people and prizes to make it happen. Would YOU be willing to source and co-ordinate prizes?? Or do YOU or your company have a suitable prize to offer? – these could be event tickets or passes to a ‘behind the scenes’ experience,  a weekend away, a case of bubbly or similar. Have an idea? Please contact Jill, Nicci or Sue.

Cake Sales – are back!

Our ever-popular Cake Sales are now in full swing and this is where yummy goodies can be purchased in the front playground at Friday at 3pm pick up. Each class has been given a date - see list below - where parents are asked to donate NUT FREE cakes or cookies (homemade or bought) to sell. Please check the ingredients list on the back of any packets to ensure products are truly NUT FREE as we do have a few children in school that depend on this. Goodies can be left at the front desk at morning drop off and a small team of volunteers are needed to set up and run the stall in the afternoon. Together these sales raise significant funds and help buy School invaluable extra resources - please support them!
3rd March – Beech; 10th March – Oak; 17th March – Hazel; 24th March – Willow (Red Nose Day)
Second hand Uniform Sale – Fri 10th March; Friday 24th March in the front playground at 3pm.
