Infant 1/3/13

01 March 2013

Dear parents

Well on Wednesday we had our first assembly in the Chapel and it was great. Everything worked well and the children certainly enjoyed the extra space so they are not sandwiched in.

I am so grateful to everybody whose giving has supported this project. Last term through the ‘Buy a Brick’ and general appeal over £10,000 was raised. We will be putting up a permanent display of donors around half term next term.

Next week our parent consultation evenings begin. I can assure you that you will receive a clear report on your child’s strengths and areas which they find more difficult and challenging. This clear knowledge of your children should lead to a really useful discussion with you who are, of course, the experts.

At HTPD we reject the idea that children’s attainment can be reduced to a number or a grade. We, like you, are interested in the whole child and base our education on our values rather than a rigid adherence to government targets and frameworks. However, we do find levels of children’s work useful to see how the school as a whole is progressing. We are only too pleased to share these with you. Please ask your child’s teacher if you would like this, or any other information we may have about your child. This will give you another important part of how your child is progressing in school. I look forward to seeing many of you over the next two weeks.

With best wishes, Richard

Parent Consultations, Wednesday 6 and Thursday 7 March

You should now have received your appointment time for the parent consultations via book bags.    Please see your child’s teacher as soon as possible if you have not yet made an appointment.

Teacher-led clubs
Owing to staff training and the parent consultations, all teacher-led clubs (Cooking & Cultures, Film, Lego, Binca, Cartoon Club, Art and Drama) will be cancelled next week.

World Book Day
To tie in with HT, next Friday 8 March will be a mufti day.  Children may come to school in their own clothes or dressed as their favourite book character if they would like to.   World Book Day vouchers are coming home in book bags today.  The special £1 books (free with a World Book Day voucher) are available from Waterstones and there are titles for ages 2+ to 11+.  Alternatively, children can use the vouchers to get £1 off a full priced book of their own choice. Vouchers are valid until 24 March.

Toy Swap
A huge ‘thank you’ for all the fantastic donations for the toy swap.  It was a great success and so lovely to see the excitement on the children’s faces as they chose a new toy.

HTPD Prayer Group
The date of the next HTPD School Prayer Group is Thursday 7 March, 12.30 pm at Katie Hardwick’s house.  We will enjoy lunch together first, children welcome!  Contact Emma Laporte for details: emmalaporte@hotmail.com

One-way system
In order to minimise traffic jams outside school at drop off and pick up, we try and operate an unofficial one-way system with everyone driving down Semaphore Road from Pewley Hill to Pewley Way.  We would also ask everyone to park safely and considerately around the school ie not on the yellow zig zag lines and not blocking our neighbours’ drives.

Cake Sale
There will be a playground cake sale on Friday 8 March organised by Chestnut Class.  Thank you to the Year 1 parents for organising today's children's cake sale.

Raffle Prizes
Your keen FOPS Committee have already started work arranging the School Summer Fair to be held on Sunday 9 June.  We are reliant on prize donations for the raffle, which raises a significant amount of money for the school.  If you know anyone or a company, perhaps through work, who might be able to donate a prize to the raffle, we would be very grateful to hear about it.  Please contact Emily Bourke (emilybourke@msn.com).

Parents' Summer Party
We are starting to think about a parents' event to celebrate the end of the academic year.  If you have party planning skills or just enjoy a party and would like to be involved, we would love a few volunteers.  Please volunteer your services to Emily Bourke.

Lunch Money
As the end of the financial year is approaching we would like to collect as much outstanding lunch money as possible before the end of March.  Please could you therefore come up to the office if your child owes lunch money for this half term.  Many thanks.

Year R Soccer
Soccer for Reception children starts on Monday 4 March for 4 weeks at a cost of £20.  There are still places available.  If you are interested forms are available from the office.

Year 2 Leavers’ Book
If you haven’t yet completed the permission slip for the leavers’ book, could you please do so as soon as possible.  Completed slips should be returned to the school office.

Sainsbury’s vouchers
Please keep bringing in your Active Kid vouchers – the collection box is on the small table outside the hall doors.
