Infant 30 March

30 March 2012

Dear Parents,

Wow another great week of weather and at Holy Trinity Pewley Down we have certainly made the most of it.  Lots of outside learning as well as some special events.

Rosie organised the combined service to celebrate Easter at Holy Trinity Church.  This is the only time in the year when the whole school meets together in church.  It is tremendous to see nearly six hundred children singing and participating.  The theme was the Ultimate Hero – Jesus who conquered death and can take our burdens of worry and guilt.

This morning we continued the theme with a joint assembly on the downs another really moving moment with all the children fully focused and engaged.

Easter is the time we celebrate new birth and this was poignantly shown in the march of Year 2 from Pewley Down to Holy Trinity.  They had made a giant cross and covered it with prayers and messages.  This was left with their partners in year 5 who carried it up to the Downs as the centre point for our assembly.  The Year 2 then completed the journey taking it back to Pewley.

I am so pleased that HTPD is an outdoor orientated school.  The National Trust is very concerned that the nation’s children do not get outside into nature enough.  This is not the case for our children where more than 60% walk to school, up to 40% of our lessons are held outdoors, the infants go to the Wild Place on a weekly basis and the juniors have many Fluffy activities on the Downs and walking or cycling in the beautiful countryside.

I do hope you have a great Easter Holiday and that you manage to get outside with your children!  Let’s hope as well as much needed rain we also have some more lovely days.

Look forward to seeing everyone back, normal time on Monday 16th April.

Best wishes, Richard

Parents’ Group
Are you a single parent? Do you sometimes find it difficult to cope with the emotional and practical issues of being on your own? Do you wish you could talk to people in a similar situation? Having young kids is exhausting enough on its own but when you are a lone parent there are so many other elements in the mix making it even harder. Even with supportive friends and family around there is something comforting in talking to other people who understand the difficulties and who appreciate the challenges you face and who you can contact when other friends are with their "traditional families". It doesn't matter what your circumstances are but if you feel that you are often on your own and you want to meet people on an informal basis who are in a similar situation, contact Cecilie on email cecilierandall@yahoo.co.uk. Look forward to hearing from you!
