Infant 16 March

16 March 2012

Dear Parents

You should have received a questionnaire today asking for your views on various aspects of school life. I do hope that you will take a few minutes to fill it in and return it to either of the schools. It so important we know the views and opinions of the people most involved with school life. We have already asked the children for their opinions about the school.

There are two types of question some are those which Ofsted use during an inspection, others are more specific to our school. Both will help us to understand how you are feeling and will give us some pointers about how we need to develop the school.

This information is only for our use and will not be shared with other authorities. I hope you will write what you really think and be specific about areas and aspects of HTPD that we could improve. It is important that we also know about the areas that you are really happy with. Please feel free to use the free writing section at the end either to develop any answer further or to raise a new subject.

Our Teaching Assistants at both sites had a training day together this week. They had training on different activities that develop the use of fine and gross motor skills. These exercises and techniques help to strengthen children’s muscles so they have the dexterity and coordination to improve their skills in sports, writing and many other activities. We greatly value the important role our committed and professional teaching assistants play in the education of your children.

Trips and special days are an integral part of your children’s educational experience at HTPD and really add value to their learning.

Year 6 had a fantastic visit to the Natural History Museum on Wednesday, a beautiful building in itself but also so full of incredible exhibits and information – every year, the children are amazed by the size of the Blue Whale!

Year 2 have been to New York this week (after they managed to get through the very rigorous passport control) as part of their Round the World topic – a good old American breakfast of bagels was a highlight.

Year 3 went back in time to Ancient Greece yesterday and thoroughly enjoyed a truly creative day; they all looked fantastic dressed up in a stunning array of Chitons!

Make sure you have a look at the web site to see the pictures!

Best wishes
Helen, Nicola and Debbie

Sport Relief & Fluffy Friday, 23 March
A reminder that all children should come to school next Friday in their favourite sporting outfit for the fluffy activities.  Please send your child in with a donation if you would like to contribute towards our Sport Relief collection.

Next week (19-23 March) will be the last week for teacher-led clubs this term – Drama, Binca, Lego, Science and Cartoon Drawing.

Easter Church Service, Thursday 29 March
All children (infants and juniors) will be attending the Easter Service at Holy Trinity Church on the 29th.  If anyone is able to help walk the children down to the church please let your child’s teacher know.  Unfortunately, there will not be space in the church for parents to attend the service itself.

FOPS News

Pewley Pigracing - Saturday 24 March 5-8 PM - There is still time to buy your tickets for this fun family event. Fish and chip orders must be placed by Monday 19th at the latest. Tickets without a food order will be available throughout next week.

SPONSORS - we are still looking for sponsors for the pig races. A donation of £20 will allow you to have a pigrace named in your honour!! It would greatly help our fundraising effort if we could cover the costs in advance so if you are unable to come on the night itself, please think whether you could help in this way and let Louise know (louise.keiller@gmx.com).

Last playground cake sale of the year (ice lollies after Easter!) will be on Friday 23rd and will be run by Willow Class.

Northbrook Gift Wrap - Would you like to help with fundraising for the school?  This is a well-run fundraiser that is done each year in Oct/Nov.  We would like to have a volunteer to coordinate it.  It takes only a few hours to enter the orders online and one afternoon to sort the items ordered when they arrive.  If you're interested, please speak to Louise Keiller or Kimberly Smith (ayejsmith@yahoo.com).

Ballet Club
The re-scheduled ballet class will take place on Thursday 22 March.  You are warmly invited to an end of term performance on Friday 23 March at 3:30pm in the School Hall.

Parents’ Group
Are you a single parent? Do you sometimes find it difficult to cope with the emotional and practical issues of being on your own? Do you wish you could talk to people in a similar situation? Having young kids is exhausting enough on its own but when you are a lone parent there are so many other elements in the mix making it even harder. Even with supportive friends and family around there is something comforting in talking to other people who understand the difficulties and who appreciate the challenges you face and who you can contact when other friends are with their "traditional families". It doesn't matter what your circumstances are but if you feel that you are often on your own and you want to meet people on an informal basis who are in a similar situation, contact Cecilie on email cecilierandall@yahoo.co.uk. Look forward to hearing from you
