HTPD 22/6/18

22 June 2018

Dear Parents and Carers,

It’s been so exciting this week to welcome 96 children and their families to the junior school for their Year 2 to Year 3 transition days. What a fantastic start they had – making new friends, meeting their new teachers and thinking about our school motto of “learning to live”. I was so thrilled when one girl said that for her it meant learning to think about others! I’m looking forward to getting to know them all.

Meanwhile Year 6 are having a fabulous time on their school journey to Preston Montford in Shropshire.
I spent a couple of days with them, particularly enjoying being a very strict Victorian headteacher! At the end of their time at HTPD, the week away has given them a wonderful chance to enjoy time with their friends, to learn about the industrial revolution and life in the past, and also to build on their growing independence ready for secondary school. Choosing how to spend their Victorian pocket money at Blists’ Hill Victorian town, having to make their own lunch, make their beds and pass a military-style room inspection all contributes to a sense of achievement at the end of the week. We look forward to having them back and hearing all about it later this afternoon.

Year 2 also enjoyed a journey of their own earlier in the week with a trip to the Natural History Museum dinosaur exhibit. I’ve heard that their behaviour and eagerness to learn was exceptional! It bodes well for their own dinosaur museum at the end of term.

Do remember that next Monday the school will be closed for our Midsummer Holiday. I hope this lovely weather continues and that we can all enjoy a pause in the middle of this busy term! With Sports Day taking place on Tuesday next week, we’ll get straight back into the excitement after the break (YR-Y2 at 9am at Pewley, Y3-4 at 11am at HT, Y5-6 at 1.15pm with the final junior school relays just before home time at 2.15pm; the children can come in wearing their PE kits if they have them at home). I look forward to seeing many of you there

With best wishes,

Clare

School will be closed next Monday 25 June for the mid-summer holiday.
